Windows 10 October Update KB3105208 Causing BSODs on Some PCs

Users claim Microsoft has just shipped a botched update

Botched updates are not something new for Microsoft, but it seems that almost every single update that the company releases for Windows 10 is actually causing problems. Not for too many users, but still.

This time, it's the Windows 10 Insider Preview October Update for x64-based systems, or KB3105208, as it's being called in Microsoft's documentation.

As you can easily figure out by reading its name, this is an update specifically released for users running a preview build of Windows 10, so if you're still on RTM, then you're safe.

On the other hand, if you're running build 10565, prepare for the worst.

A number of users are reporting that KB3105208 is causing BSODs on their computers, and for the moment, there doesn't seem to be a fully working solution that does the job for everyone affected.

How to (try to) fix the KB3105208 BSOD

Basically, some of those who are trying to install this particular update are getting a BSOD out of nowhere, and according to a number of posts on Microsoft's Community forums, it's pretty impossible to get back to the desktop because the PC fails to boot.

One possible fix is to disable Secure Boot from BIOS and restart the computer, which some people have already tried in order to return to their desktops, uninstall the update and then go back to BIOS to re-enable this option. Restore points can also be accessed with the help of recovery drives, so if you have one, make sure you give it a try to get rid of this botched update.

As usual, there are no release notes for this particular update, so not only that we can't tell for sure what's included and see what's going to be fixed after you install it, but it's also impossible to determine what went wrong and was causing the BSOD.

In the meantime, Microsoft's probably playing the same card again: it's a preview build, so bugs are very likely to be experienced. A fix, however, should arrive soon.

I tried to install win 10 on another machine and got an endless reboot till I put a win 8 disc in and repaired the drive.Not a good start.Wondered why i bothered but I thought i better test it at least. Any way way i repaired the drive was from partition errors from win 10 to install. I never got any errors from any win update to next version I did in past.Had to repartition drive and use a partition manager to repair as well .yeahhh .got my win 8.1 back.As i speak its downloading win 10 installation files. Lets see what happens next:)
