Batu69
Some Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users are finding that they can only reschedule and not cancel Windows 10 upgrades. Are you running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 and not feeling the love for Windows 10? It seems Microsoft is making it harder for users to opt out of upgrading.Reports are circulating that some users are being presented with dialog boxes that only give them the option to start the upgrade process or reschedule it for a later date. Others are finding that the Windows Update screen is only offering them the option to begin the upgrade process, with other system updates being hidden from view.Is there anything you can do to reverse this situation? Right now there isn't. Even Josh Mayfield, the maker of the GWX Control Panel -- an excellent utility that has previously allowed users to opt out of and avoid the nags to upgrade to Windows 10 -- doesn't have an answer at present. "If you are seeing either of the above two screens, exactly as they appear here, GWX Control Panel is not yet able to help you," writes Mayfield, "although I am looking into whether it's possible to fix these things through software. I do not have any recommendations at the moment, though, unfortunately." I've come across unconfirmed reports that using System Restore to take the system back to a point before September 15 will get people out of the jam, although the fly in the ointment here is that Windows 8.1 no longer generates automatic restore points by default, and they can only be created manually.Only last month it was revealed that Microsoft was quietly downloading the Windows 10 installer files -- many gigabytes in size -- to users who had not asked for the, just in case they decided they wanted to upgrade. It seems that Microsoft is desperate to get laggards who are still running Windows 7 and Windows 8 onto Windows 10, but there's a fine line between being enthusiastic about a new operating system and behaving like you own every PC running Windows, and I think that in this case that line has been crossed.Source

steven36
If you buy a new PC with windows a 8.1 on it . it will install these updates on you're PC if you allow internet before it finish installing . Now all clean installs must done offline and you must turn auto updates to never check for updates and its pretty simple you just review what the update is before install the needed ones. Just hide the spyware ones and nagware ones . If you already installed them there's batch files were you can remove them or you can do it by hand.If you can hold off tell July 2016 they want even offer you windows 10 anymore. GWX Control Panel cant do anything if you uninstall it and hide the update or better yet never install it. Even if you were accidentally install windows 10 all you have to do is go to restore and restore it back to old windows . You have 30 days to downgrade Windows 10. straycat19
There is an easier way than trying to track all the updates. Just turn them off period. I have seen machines that have never had an update installed since the initial OS install and they ran fine, weren't compromised and contained no malware. As sneaky as microsoft is getting you will never know for sure what an update does to your system so it is best to not install any.

I got all updates installed but spy ones and nag ones my pc don't offer me windows 10 . They was a update out this time to harden windows shell if you didn't do it means you're pc is less secure than someone that updates . If you're that paranoid that you dont do updates at all maybe you should use Linux are something? :tooth:I have a ip sniffer on windows 8.1 it don't be calling out nothing that it didn't call out before June 2015 . :)

captcha
So if you don't want that upgrade app to work on 7 & 8.1, you may uninstall these updates as well besides 3035583 2952664-For 72976978,2919355- For 8.1Without these updates the Upgrade app wont run as mentioned here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3081048We just need to reverse the process I guess. :PYou can search for these updates, and you will see that these updates are just needed for upgrade & have no other use beside that. It's time that i make the switch to Linux and have Microsoft as my (you know what) I use all of them bro Windows 10 ,Windows 8.1 and Liunx Mint ..Its not a big deal . Once you set windows 8.1 or Windows 7 up to hide these its very easy to check the updates to make sure theres no new ones Windows 10 I done a little tweaking and I just block the rest of it with a firewall . :P
Karlston
I guess they have to find a way to increase W10's abysmal 6.63% market share. Forcing the 67.25% who have stuck to Windows 7 and 8.1 to upgrade is a brilliant idea.https://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0Who thinks they own your PC, OS, internet connection, and personal data? straycat19
If you're that paranoid that you dont do updates at all maybe you should use Linux are something? I have 23 computers at home, 19 of them are running some release of Linux currently. Even my Nexus 7 is running LInux, not Android. Not paranoid just pissed. And the least of my worries is someone breaking into my system. All those little stupid web trackers people like to put in their signatures to tell you where you are haven't come within 2000 miles of my actual location. Nothing, I repeat, nothing can get into my system. I have over 130 GB of malware payloads that I have tested and not one of them has ever managed to get past my security measures. I get malware updates monthly and have tested my test system against them. If the settings on the test system work then I use that on the production systems. Always have a test bed, never test on production.

straycat19
BIOS/EFI Backdoors only affect those who don't know how to protect their systems. As security concious as I am, I don't overlook anything and spare no cost to ensure my security. Do I have anything to hide...no, but I spent years back in the 80s and 90s hacking into systems, we spent our lunch hour hacking into one another's system and servers. Back then it was Banyan Vines, a server system most people haven't heard of today. So with me, security is just a matter of pride.
