Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB3093266 Fails to Install for Some

The new patch might experience same problems as the others

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 cumulative update KB3093266 earlier today, and although no release notes have been provided, most users running the new operating system have already rushed to install it.

It turns out, however, that KB3093266 actually fails to install on a number of PCs and then pushes these computers into an infinite reboot loop because, when the setup fails, the computer is automatically restarted while users are then prompted to re-initiate the process.

Right now, there's no information on what could possibly go wrong with the setup, but there are several users complaining about the same problem already, so it appears that this new cumulative update is experiencing the very same issues as its predecessors.

Here's how one of the users hit by the problem describes it:

“After an apparently successful installation through Windows Update, the computer requests to be booted. During the boot, I get a message that the installation HAS NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL and then continues to boot. Going into Windows Update Advanced, I find that the update did fail. I did this twice and it failed both times.”

Similar issues with previous cumulative updates

The worst thing isn't necessarily the fact that a number of users are experiencing problems with this update, but the fact that similar issues were reported with the first cumulative updates as well.

Truth is, this time, fewer users are seeing this error, so Microsoft has most likely managed to fix it on a number of Windows 10 installations, but as it's pretty clear, more work in this regard needs to be done.

At this point, there is no workaround for those who cannot install the latest cumulative update, and since there's no manual download yet (which could be a possible way to fix the problem), the only solution is to wait until Microsoft comes up with a fix.

WOW! is Microsoft having (endless) problems with this new OS?
Surely by now they should have sorted out all the problems so that we who have not downloaded the software can try to install it.

Seems as if one must wait for a long time before we can be satified that it will/might be better than Windows 7.

Those that have already installed 10,Good Luck mateys.

I think Win 10 has a very looong way to go ( a hard and painfull road ), before its as good ( and reliable) as Win7............

Ummm... should read "most users have already had it forced upon them."

I have Windows 10 and I've been using it since it came out in July. There were so many issues those first 2 weeks but there are less now. There is still one big bug that is getting on my nerves and it's the blue screen that happens with this error "Faulty Hardware Corrupted Page" and when that happens it gives a percentage and when it reaches 100 it restarts. Happens at random upon clicking on something either in Chrome or in desktop. Really bad bug as I work from home and use my laptop a lot. Good thing browsers have restore functions upon crashing :/. Lots are getting that problem.

I still really like W10 but it needs a speed boost in some things (I have an i7 with an SSD).

I'm really enjoying the Store, lots of great new apps over W8.1 and really fun to use.

I haven't had issues installing cumulative updates but I have had issues sometimes installing other updates, they eventually end up working after a few days.

I learn my lesson the hard way I used windows 10 since the day it released in July . If you stay or go back to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 yo no longer have worry with none of these bugs . I did. There's all kinds of windows 10 bugs even with newer versions of madVR and other apps just freezing up from time to time. Many apps made before windows 10 or not tested under windows 10 while being updated.

You only get 2 more years of extended support with windows 10 than with 8.1 witch is the only benefit really that comes with windows 10 really that i seen so far . Even if you bought a new PC with windows 8.1 on it by January 10, 2023 it would be time to think about buying a new one.

DX 12 don’t even work for a lot old machines .So you’re stuck with DX 11 and maybe even old drivers Go back to old windows things become much more easier . Maybe in 2023 I will worry about trying Windows 10 again If I don’t buy a PC that comes with it by then . :P
