MICROSOFT has missed its self-imposed deadline for an update for its new Skype messaging apps.

Microsoft has amended an official blog post which previously claimed its overhauled Skype messaging apps for Windows 10 desktop would be entering a preview stage by summer 2015.

Skype suffered a monumental OUTAGE, which affected businesses and families trying to keep in-touch across the globe.

Microsoft has since confirmed that the down-time was triggered by a "larger-than-usual configuration change."

It could be possible the refreshed Windows 10 apps and upgrade are related to the "configuration change" and were at least partly responsible for the worldwide outage.

However Microsoft has not confirmed the theory.

Renown Windows blogger Paul Thurrott talked to Microsoft about the subtle change to the Skype app blogpost, "We want to make sure Skype built into Windows 10 is the best experience possible, so we’re taking some more time to make sure it’s ready for users.

"In the meantime, you can continue to use Skype for Windows desktop, Skype for Windows Phone and Skype for Web on Edge."

According to Microsoft's earlier blog post, the refreshed apps will break-up the core Skype experience into three new apps.

"Later this summer, we’ll roll out the Preview for Universal Skype experiences built into Messaging, Phone and Video apps," Microsoft wrote in the first blog post.
