In there new privacy policy they state in the section "What do you collect that cannot identify me?"

http://www.avg.com/gb-en/privacy-new?A=#what-do-you-collect-that-cannot-identify-me

We collect non-personal data to make money from our free offerings so we can keep them free, including: Advertising ID associated with your devices Browsing and search history, including meta data; Internet service provider or mobile network you use to connect to our products; and Information regarding other applications you may have on your device and how they are used. Sometimes browsing history or search history contains terms that might identify you. If we become aware that part of your browsing history might identify you, we will treat that portion of your history as personal data, and will anonymize this information. We may also aggregate and/or anonymize personal data we collect about you. For instance, although we would consider your precise location to be personal data if stored separately, if we combined the locations of our users into a data set that could only tell us how many users were located in a particular country, we would not consider this aggregated information to be personally identifiable.

Even though they state that if they find that could identify you then they will remove it. but they only say if they will remove it if they can detect it.

They later state in "Do you share my data?"

http://www.avg.com/gb-en/privacy-new?A=#do-you-share-my-data

Yes, though when and how we share it depends on whether it is personal data or non-personal data. AVG may share non-personal data with third parties and may publicly display aggregate or anonymous information.

further down the article under "What rights do I have over my data?"

http://www.avg.com/gb-en/privacy-new?A=#what-rights-do-i-have-over-my-data

You have the right to opt out of the use or collection of certain data, including personal data and non-personal data, by following the instructions here. http://www.avg.com/gb-en/privacy-preferences That link just takes you to instructions on how opt out of the new letter newsletter.

This wrong on so many levels

EDIT: It seams from further reading that this isn't new but i only found it because of there new one page page privacy policy. I think this new layout made it possible to see the correlation without a law degree hence why i found it.

They're not selling your history, they're selling you're advertising ID.

Either way AVG is absolute shit anyway so why even bother using it in first place. Only people who do are n00bs who probably also still use IE.

My point was that only n00bs use AVG/IE. How could I of got my point across without specifically saying what my point was? I was speaking in general. If you took it personally it's your problem, sorry. Also if you take offence to teh word "n00b" you are the one who needs to "grow up".

Why on earth are you using IE? (I'm genuinely curious) The vast majority of us stopped using it 10+ years ago?

I use four browsers sometimes sites break and internet explorer is the one to use and name calling is name calling I can say what you said without calling users noobs (its all entitlement shit and its meaningless unless your trying to argue or instigate a arguement or troll someone) and if you feel the only way you can get your point across is acting like that you got problems I feel sorry for you. To fix the problem of what this thread is talking about I would use avast kaspersky or eset those are all good antiviruses.

I uninstalled AVG when it started blocking window requesters for catalyst control center, made it impossible to change a lot of the settings with it turned on, it also blocked requesters for windows programs like the stuff in control panel.

Quite why it did that is beyond me. Could do without the anti virus being it's own virus.

1) I don't like the idea of anyone collecting our data/information without permission.

2) @GRiM, I'm a "noob" and I'm not offended by your use of the word...I'm improving with time, but I accept that I'm way behind some of the experts on Nsane.

3) I have used AVG for quite a few years, and apart from the (expected) false positives when I use cracks or patches I don't have any bad experiences to report.

4) I use XP....there, I outed myself!!!! I'm off to my Noobs Anonymous meeting. :D :D :D

I guess that's the price to pay for using a free product... although it's not quite clear what they do on their paid version. Guess the data is collected there, too: if that's the case, it's pathetic.

After what Microsoft did with Windows 10, seems everyone is jumping in on aggeressive data mining.

What is so bad about Microsoft, AV programs, Google, etc reporting your web activity, location or whatever they want if you aren't doing anything wrong? It's getting that way with everything we do and the only other option is to live off the grid which would be no fun. Google pays you with play store credits to turn location reporting on and let them follow you around everywhere and ask you 2 days later how your shopping experience was at the grocery store.
