212eta
Mozilla Firefox is due for some big changes soon.By the end of 2015, Firefox will move to a more Chrome-like multi-process design. And, in a year to a year and a half, Firefox will abandon its current add-on system forone largely compatible with Chrome extensions. These aren’t necessarily bad changes — in fact, they’re arguably big improvements. But Firefox seems to be abandoning its big advantage and becoming even more Chrome-like.The list of reasons to use Firefox over Chrome is shrinking.Firefox is About to Become an Almost Complete Copy of Chrome (howtogeek)

steven36
What a shame , Firefox 1.0 was released on November 9, 2004 with its own vision , There were nearly three years between the launch of Firefox 3 and Firefox 4 after that they started going away from there own vision and copying Chrome it started with Rapid Release Schedule 2011 , Then Australis 2014 , Forced Addon signing by 2016 , Now WebExtensions for Firefox (The current model being used by Firefox for its add-ons will now be phased out within 12 months to 18 months.) Most likely will take them over 2 years there very slow with development . ChormeFox , OpreaChorme . Only thing that will be left that dont copy Chrome will be IE and Palemoon :PGoogle Chrome don't have to buy Firefox like AOL did Netscape to shut it down . Firefox is giving Google Chrome all there marketshare voluntary by copying it just like Opera did . Firefox will get better security at the price of turning its back on its users like its been for the last 5 years . 1000s of add-ons will no longer work . CODYQX4
This is very sad news :(What will happen to all the browsers like Waterfox and Palemoon ?They'll probably stagnate, forever based on what will become ancient, junk code, while the main Firefox dies even further because it loses ALL reasons to choose it over Chrome.Just look at Pale Moon. Needs a special AdBlock fork due to missing updated internal code. Just to not have the Australis theme/look. I don't feel anyone doing these forks is up to the task of keeping these browsers updated. They aren't now, just wait until the mainline has a mass exodus of devs. Even pathetic Chrome forks that change next to nothing of substance (Iron is a fraud, all it does is force you to use privacy settings that you can change yourself on official Chrome) can lag 4-6 versions behind. It would be very easy for developers of Firefox add-ons to start making Palemoon add-ons if they wanted too because most old and some new Firefox add-ons work fine in Palemoon. Developers use to make addons that still work in palemoon. Firefox changing there code is why they no longer work in palemoon but and older version of the add-on most the time will. Chrome add-ons suck. I would stay with a out dated browser before i use these in Gecko . :lol:Palmoon is changing there engine to Goanna soon they been moving away from Firefox along time but will still have add-on support. What Goanna is a Engine that's updated that's based on v25 Gecko . New is not always better .http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?t=8607

I think this to be unlikely. Many addons are made for Firefox and fixed as needed for Palemoon.I don't think the Chrome addons themselves suck, but the API doesn't let you dig as deep. Hasn't stopped all my security addons from getting made. This is what Firefox is sure to do with their new API, and the forks may stick with the old system, but if they change too much, addons between forks will become unfixable. It's a shame really, but at least the browsers these days do a much better job at rendering similarly, compared to IE6-8 days, but I worry that the forks may fall behind, combine that with the possibility that there may be more people running a fork than stock Firefox someday. Many developers that make add-ons for Firefox will have no choice if they want keep making them ..to make them for Palemoon because they simply dont work as WebExtensions and some developers dont want to even bother learning WebExtensions and I dont blame them it sucks. Chrome banned most its good addons long ago. now Firefox is headed that way.The difference is back when Chrome had better add-ons most forks didnt support many Chrome add-ons but Palemoon supports old add-ons of Firefox. smallhagrid
It seems most folks no longer have any idea what a real browser IS anymore.Worse still IMO is that when stuff is dumbed down to the point of being brain dead, most folks are not even aware of THAT.When it gets to the point that folks no longer know how to flush a toilet or turn a faucet handle because everything has become automated with sensors, there will only be one question left, I think:Will such dumbed-down folks even know what the toilet paper is to be used for anymore ??Woof. Administrator DKT27 Posted September 13, 2015 Administrator Share Posted September 13, 2015 I guess soon the only difference between Firefox and Chrome will be that Firefox will come with it's own tracking rather than of Google.I'm always supportive of making changes to the browser as it's required, this includes back changes. Which even the author of the article is supportive of. However, the problem with Firefox is not it doing what others have done before or long time ago, the problem is lack of originality. The only two reasons a person will choose Firefox over Chrome will be privacy and something original, different from other browsers. Both of which, Mozilla no longer seems to care about.
