Think Cortana is cool? It comes at a price...

Path is C:\windows\systemapps\microsoft.windows.cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy\searchui.exe

I use Total Commander to search files on my pc, I don`t need M$ ever to know what I`m searching on my own device.

Also, my pc has little RAM, so disabling this process is only doing good here.

I went back to WIn 8.1. 10 is just a steaming pile of junk. You can disable all you want in settings, tweak the registry all you want, add domains to the hosts file to your hearts desire, and block a million and one things with your firewall.... but I can guarantee you it's still not blocking everything. Not by a long shot.

The thing is that you cannot stay forever with 7 or 8.1. Windows 7 support for releasing security updates will be ended in 2020. This OS won`t support newest hardware well either.

Of course you can. If one just use the computer to read emails, forums, and do some light office work, sticking to windows 7 is ok.

My 2 cents is, use every method against the features you hate in Windows 10 to the best of your capability — a multi-layer approach could never hurt. F3h9xqz.gif

If capability is an issue, better use some other alternative like the 8.x / Windows 7 / XP, Linux, Mac, etc., etc. — but, for the love of God do something about correcting the capability part . . . . . . . . . or else, stop whining on these Windows 10 threads. :tehe:

I agree with dcseighteen DO everything you can control and what you cant (be like my friend patrick when it goes to being a asshole he finds out what he can and cant get away with when it goes to friendships and when he gets that information he goes from there and yes patrick is a hacker as matter a fact best hacker I know) voice to microsoft and if enough people vote for it its going to happen. If your on the final release of windows ten be happy the keylogger isnt there its only there in technical preview. Whats the competitor to cortana siri how do you think siri works how do you think any of these programs work they cant be a "personal digital assistant" without collecting information about you to a extent and we are talking about microsoft who have alot to lose and they have alot riding on this I doubt they are going to collect additional information that the windows ten EULA doesnt say if they did they get illegal.

Bottom line is if you like cortana use it if you dont disable it why post about it (if you post about try not to sound like your whining when doing it unfortunately and reluntantly for the rest of use the trolls dont care and are going to do it regardless and if you do end up finding a new way to disable additional tracking in windows ten you can post it (remember what you can control). What if you ended up hiring a personal assistant in real life human being they cant be your personal assistent if they dont know your schedule time you get off and additional information and sometimes people tell there assistants additional information they wouldn't tell anyone why there there there listening and your getting close to them.

Im not trying to harp on anyone here but for the love of god I have seen four different programs that can disable the windows ten spying use one or use them all and disable what you can I started beta testing windows ten in (damnit my keyboard is starting to repeat characters) feburary and I didnt find cortana annoying windows seven and earlier operating systems collect information to your not bitching about the information they collect only about what information windows ten does. Im sure windows seven technical preview and windows eight point one technical preview had keyloggers as well. I dont mind microsoft collecting data as much as I mind the nsa and microsoft is no where close as horrible as the nsa (the nsa know the last number you called on your cell phoine ten minutes ago microsoft doesnt they dont need it). Im going to upgrade to windows ten pro when I get a chance and Im putting it on a different hard drive and im going to continue using windows seven (I have additional copies legit copies of windows seven I didnt get from online) and Im going to love it.

Im mad right now I have windows ten pro on my windows seven hard drive installed in a virtual machine with only sixty gigs of hard drive space to use and I want to delete my illegitimate version of windows eight on my third hard drive and put windows ten pro on it Im very excited. All of you should be to stop only thinking about what you cant control and whining about it and love what you got I rely on a poem to guide me through life. Take the good with the bad smile with the sad love what you got and remember what you had. Always forgive but never forget learn from your mistakes but never regret. People change things go wrong but just remember life goes on. In this case the first sentence is the key use it..

My previous comment was not directed at anyone in particular — on a constructive note though, I have tried & tested this firewall implementation successfully on a Customers system, against Microsoft privacy (and a lot more.)

Besides, it would be worth using one's HIPS / SandBox / Anti-executable, etc., etc. against the suspected triggers of privacy-intrusion. If someone were to start a topic on the same, my guess is . . . . . . . . it would be a great hit. F3h9xqz.gif

I can. I still have systems running Windows 98 and XP that I use weekly to play old games on and have replacement hardware stockpiled in case i need a small IDE drive, floppy disk, motherboard, etc. They don't have to connect to the internet, or do anything fancy except run the games I installed on them 17 years ago.

Q Can Fix IT

I think the key here, is to do with Cortana what people have already acomplished (to some degree at least) with more restricted virtual assistants like Siri or Googole Now. Set up a proxy to intercept and/sanitize the data Cortana sends out.

Take control of her and maybe even make her more useful.

I draw the line at spying on my emails and texts...absolutely NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS what so ever and really should be illegal. Law enforcement needs a warrant or court order to see my email...but microsoft doesn't? They can kiss my @ss and stick Win 10 up theirs!
