DoNotSpy10 – Configure Windows 10 Privacy settings

ARMOUR

Recommended Posts

Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system ships with quite a few default settings that users may find invasive. We have listed them all in our Windows 10 privacy overview, and if you went through the long guide, you may have noticed that it takes quite a bit of work to adjust them all.

That's where the free program DoNotSpy for Windows 10 comes to play. It provides you with options to set privacy settings from within its interface with just a couple of clicks.

Important

Note: Windows SmartScreen protection may display a warning when you run the program. You need to click on the "more info" link and then on the next screen on "run anyway" to install the program.

Note 2: The program ships with third-party offers. Make sure you decline those if you are not interested.

Note 3: The program page is in German, the program itself is in English and German. Just click on the download link on the page to proceed

.

Once you start the program you get a list of tweaks that it supports in an easy to use interface and a prompt about creating a new system restore point. It is recommended to set one as it allows you to go back should things go wrong.

The main advantage that DoNotSpy offers is convenience. Instead of having to hunt down the locations to change these settings by yourself, you find most privacy related settings in the program interface.

The downside is the adware offer and the fact that DoNotSpy10 needs to be installed before use.

Cortana is more than likely still running in the background even when disabled.

Quick list of the 23 built in W10 modern "crAPPS" (bloatware) that most of them are non-removable for those that want to know:

I would suggest leaving Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder but the rest of them like Windows Store and all that other useless junk that you won't be using, remove from your W10 operating system, no Windows Store, no Mail, no Calender no nothing. Get rid of the junk and then via Settings menu turn off all privacy settings and telemerty and even disable cortana. Once you do that, you should be fine. No need for special fancy applications.

WindowsCommunicationsApp WindowsAlarms WindowsPhone WindowsCamera BingFinance WindowsMaps Microsoft.AppConnector Microsoft.Windows.CloudExperienceHost Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin Microsoft.BingWeather Microsoft.Getstarted Microsoft.ZuneVideo Microsoft.Windows.Photos Microsoft.BingSports Microsoft.WindowsStore Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection Microsoft.WindowsSoundRecorder Microsoft.Office.OneNote Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub windows.devicesflow Windows.MiracastView Windows.PurchaseDialog Microsoft.BioEnrollment

You can get a full list of all W10 native apps in elevated PowerShell with following command:

Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | Out-GridView

Should be good enough.

Can't get the Netflix app without the Windows Store. No Netflix app = no SuperHD on Windows as the higher resolution isn't available when viewing inside of a browser. ;) No Netflix? Then I guess a person can get rid of it. :P

So, how to remove these please?

Launch an elevated PowerShell (Right click - Run as Administrator ...)

Copy the command for the App you want to remove from the list below and paste it into the PowerShell window

Ex:

To remove the Calculator App, copy the entire line under the App name Calculator

Remove-AppxPackage -Confirm -Package Microsoft.WindowsCalculator_10.1505.29000.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

2zgffqx.png

The -Confirm parameter lets you to decide if you want to remove the App [ Yes ] or cancel the operation [ No ]

To remove everything that can be removed from all users with one single command, use this:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage

The progress shows which apps can and which cannot be removed:

Result, a clean and empty Start, All Apps only showing the apps you cannot remove:

Sorry, but I could not see the list - i.e., for each app to be removed individually.

But thanks for this.
