Windows 10 updates can disable pirated games and unauthorized hardware

Microsoft’s new Services Terms that went in effect on the 1st of August state the technology giant can prevent you from playing counterfeit games or use unauthorized hardware. The terms are valid for everyone using Microsoft services such as Office 365, Outlook.com, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive, Bing and MSN. Also software using a Microsoft account is covered by the terms meaning the terms also affect most Windows 10 users. Although Microsoft’s latest OS can be used without a Microsoft account the majority of users will nevertheless use it with an account from the Redmond company.

The terms now explicitly state Microsoft can release updates that could have some serious consequences. In the terms the company states it might, “download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.”

It’s unclear what the company means with unauthorized hardware peripheral devices, it could be that the company will disable e.g. Xbox controllers that are not certified by Microsoft. Counterfeit games is more clear, this is pirated software.

Users not on Windows 10 could potentially also become a victim of these new terms, also updates to Skype, Windows Live Mail, Maps, OneDrive app, OneNote app, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Games published by Microsoft are covered by the terms.

With the release of Windows 10 there has also been a lot of buzz regarding the privacy settings of the operating system. The express settings, which are used by default when installing the operating system, contain some settings that by some users are considered as privacy concerns, such as the use of Cortana, automatic updates, the use of a Microsoft account and the gathering of telemetry and privacy by Microsoft.

its unacceptable!!!

Windowsd 10 seems to be released exclusively for companies, not for public use and personal computers!!!

Employees can suffer such rerstrictions while working, not "free" users like you and me!

With all the sum of all crap brought by windows 10, maybe, in an uncertain future, people will stick with old versions of windows or consider using another os!!!

Meanwhile, microsoft can reconsider a lot of things in the new os!

Well, I WAS going to test it out but now I have changed my mind on the matter. Windows 10 can go down in flames of its own misery. Looking nice and doing nice things is fine, but this new OS is not a good apple so to speak. Can't be trusted no matter what new things it can do for you.

It dont seem it was released for that ether . Microsoft said themselves it was to try to make everything cloud based . The businesses are not going to get on board tell about 2018 or 2019 about the time they have to buy and upgrade when updates run out for windows 7 . They will need new computers by then .

Perhaps more worrying, users with a non-genuine version of Windows 10 won't be blocked to the current version of the OS, without being able to update it? If the company provides a free update to Windows 10 for all pirates, while blocking then the update process, would be a very confusing on the part of the Redmond giant gesture. However, Microsoft has already done so in the past, and it would not be surprising that the firm adopts the same scheme with Windows 10.

Thing is they tired to send bad stuff out before in updates ..So this is nothing new and guess what :pirate: s won in the end.

Once Microsoft does something to stop you from using it or games etc. That's when it gets interrelating to see what coders can come up with .

There's always work arounds for this sort of thing. They said that you couldn't pirate Windows 7 but pirates don't seem to have a problem with that. A simple program can override the disabling mechanism.

My Virtua Tennis 2009, FIFA13, Farming Simulator 2013, Farming Simulator 2015 and Quake 4 are not amused.

Windows 10 is an invasive cancer. Patch/disable all you want, it doesn't change the fact that they want to become Google, except a kind that makes spyware that you HATE to use.

You do realize the same was said about windows 7 ?

With Windows 7, Microsoft is asserting legal control over your computer and is using this power to abuse computer users.

Here's a site defecated to how bad windows 7 privacy is :P

7? They've said XP is backdoored and sending info.

With 10, they aren't even attempting to deny it, because everyone else already claims they own your info and will do whatever they want with it.

So i will control win 10 like i did older versions of windows . Noting can get in you dont allow remember this... Maybe to some that's not been on the net that long, its big news ..but to me its boring . I already blocked Microsoft the day I installed windows 10. ^_^

As someone who blocks all web requests per site in his browser, I know the mentality quite well. My 10 VM is solely for development. I can firewall it to only allow my remote access, and Windows Updates, banning everything right down to the internet browser.

My other test VMs? Totally disconnected. If I'm making sure MTK doesn't crash with some Office/OS combination, then I don't need internet access on them.

To me windows 10 is a big blast really. I never liked Microsoft apps to began with. So it gives me great joy to block all there adware out of my computer .. because I'm not buying none of there crap no ways. A barebones O/S like Windows 10 is a great opportunity for someone like me that dont live in a cloud like the masses do. to install some really cool programs and shape my O/S into my own little masterpiece.
