humble3d
Is a mini ICE AGE on the way ?? Scientists warn the sun will 'go to sleep' in 2030 and could cause temperatures to plummet New study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles Says that between 2030 and 2040 solar cycles will cancel each other outCould lead to 'Maunder minimum' effect that saw River Thames freeze over The Earth could be headed for a 'mini ice age' researchers have warned.A new study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles - and says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out. This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the 'Maunder minimum' - which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London's River Thames to freeze over. Scroll down for video The new model of the Sun's solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun's 11-year heartbeat. It draws on dynamo effects in two layers of the Sun, one close to the surface and one deep within its convection zone. Predictions from the model suggest that solar activity will fall by 60 per cent during the 2030s to conditions last seen during the 'mini ice age' that began in 1645, according to the results presented by Prof Valentina Zharkova at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno. The model predicts that the pair of waves become increasingly offset during Cycle 25, which peaks in 2022. During Cycle 26, which covers the decade from 2030-2040, the two waves will become exactly out of synch and this will cause a significant reduction in solar activity. 'In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun,' said Zharkova. 'Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other. 'We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum'' THE SOLAR CYCLE Conventional wisdom holds that solar activity swings back and forth like a simple pendulum. At one end of the cycle, there is a quiet time with few sunspots and flares. At the other end, solar max brings high sunspot numbers and frequent solar storms. It's a regular rhythm that repeats every 11 years.Reality is more complicated. Astronomers have been counting sunspots for centuries, and they have seen that the solar cycle is not perfectly regular. The Maunder Minimum (also known as the prolonged sunspot minimum) is the name used for the period starting in about 1645 and continuing to about 1715 when sunspots became exceedingly rare, as noted by solar observers of the time. It caused London's River Thames to freeze over, and 'frost fairs' became popular. This period of solar inactivity also corresponds to a climatic period called the 'Little Ice Age' when rivers that are normally ice-free froze and snow fields remained year-round at lower altitudes. There is evidence that the Sun has had similar periods of inactivity in the more distant past, Nasa says. The connection between solar activity and terrestrial climate is an area of on-going research. Some scientists hypothesize that the dense wood used in Stradivarius instruments was caused by slow tree growth during the cooler period. Instrument maker Antonio Stradivari was born a year before the start of the Maunder Minimum. It is 172 years since a scientist first spotted that the Sun's activity varies over a cycle lasting around 10 to 12 years. But every cycle is a little different and none of the models of causes to date have fully explained fluctuations. Many solar physicists have put the cause of the solar cycle down to a dynamo caused by convecting fluid deep within the Sun. Now, Zharkova and her colleagues have found that adding a second dynamo, close to the surface, completes the picture with surprising accuracy. 'We found magnetic wave components appearing in pairs, originating in two different layers in the Sun's interior,' she said. 'They both have a frequency of approximately 11 years, although this frequency is slightly different, and they are offset in time. 'Over the cycle, the waves fluctuate between the northern and southern hemispheres of the Sun. Combining both waves together and comparing to real data for the current solar cycle, we found that our predictions showed an accuracy of 97%,' said Zharkova. Zharkova and her colleagues derived their model using a technique called 'principal component analysis' of the magnetic field observations from the Wilcox Solar Observatory in California. They examined three solar cycles-worth of magnetic field activity, covering the period from 1976-2008. In addition, they compared their predictions to average sunspot numbers, another strong marker of solar activity. All the predictions and observations were closely matched. --more-- http://solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/SunspotCycle.shtml http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3156594/Is-mini-ICE-AGE-way-Scientists-warn-sun-sleep-2020-cause-temperatures-plummet.html

dMog
Well it cant be because my government has said that we need to pay them money to stop global warming. And they wouldnt lie to me .Would they? :samazing how a politicians can simultaneous deny climate change/global warming but at the same time use it as excuse to make us pay more tax..... as to of taxing us for it...it ain't gonna change the fact that things need to be done but dammit..... simply creating revenue through tax is not gonna solve anything. The Owl
What a load of codswallop let me tell you something guys and gals next Monday I am 66 and in my nigh on 66 years I have seen it get hotter and hotter and drier and this is in in the UK I delivered newspapers in North Kent during the extreme winter of 62 - 63 seehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_of_1962%E2%80%9363_in_the_United_Kingdom16 foot snow drifts, now we don't even get seasons I doubt I will still be around in 2030 so good luck with that your just being fed crap to jusity not doing anything about global warming. smallhagrid
Presently well in progress=>Complete failure of the entire food chain;Death of all critically important marine life;Aluminium pollution killing off whatever marine life may remain as well as land-based plant life;Water pollution at levels never before seen;Oxygen levels dropping continuously.So...With less and less food to eat - water becoming unfit to drink - air that is getting totally unfit to support mammalian life=>We should DEFINITELY spend whatever time we have left arguing and worrying about the huge amounts of fear-porn which has been mostly engineered to keep us all very, very preoccupied so as NOT to take note of what is most likely to cause our very own extinctions.Or:Go get some beers and stuff and party hard as there ain't a single thing we can actually DO to make anything better anyhow, right ?? smallhagrid
To start with...:nice link...the onlt thing you will need to read comments from that site is lots of tinfoil to wear as a helmetThere are nutty commenters everywhere; they do not determine the quality of the posted subject matter at all.On a more factual basis now=>Enenews is merely an aggregator which uses other sources which may be verified if desired. In the quoted link there are open admissions by TEPCO as well as observations presented by a reputable nuclear engineer. That man is Arnie Gundersen, who is reputed to have over 30 years exposure in the nuclear industry. Some highlights from the info presented there:Excerpts from presentation by Arnie Gundersen, Fairewinds Chief Engineer, Jul 16, 2015 (emphasis added): * Are the meltdowns at Fukushima Daiichi over?… This catastrophe is not over… We should continue to be very worried. * 3 of the nuclear cores at Fukushima Daiichi are in direct contact with groundwater. Nuclear power designers and engineers never anticipated that possibility. * Fukushima Daiichi Units No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 were destroyed… allowing holes and cracks to form… We know for sure that the Fukushima Daiichi containments are full of holes that allow groundwater to come in direct contact with each nuclear core. * Groundwater is still leaking in and leaking out, at a rate of at least 300 tons per day… more than 1,500 days have passed… 23,000-tanker truckloads of radioactive water have already leaked into the Pacific Ocean. Worse yet, there is no end in sight. * As Fairewinds anticipated, the ‘ice wall’ is a complete failure. * Cesium, strontium and plutonium from Fukushima Daiichi will continue to bleed into the Pacific Ocean for decades because the groundwater flow is unmitigated. * Japan’s press looks on silently due to the real threat and constraints of the government’s secrecy act… The true human, financial, and environmental costs of this nuclear power catastrophe are not publicized and discussed. With regards to snarky comments made by anyone who feels they must discredit anything that they do not wish to hear:Folks who desire to live in denial will do so no matter how much illness, suffering and death is very obviously happening all around them.I prefer to face the world as it is and wish all those who deny things well within their own, safe, little worlds.I'll stay in the larger, real world all the same, thanks.
