96% of IT decision-makers are interested in Windows 10.

A new study has found that Microsoft can achieve its goal of 1 billion Windows 10 installations by 2017, with most businesses planning to deploy it within two years.

The study revealed that 96% of IT decision-makers were interested in Windows 10, with 40% planing to roll it out within 12 months of its launch.

Already 60% of IT departments have tested the new Microsoft operating system, and 33% plan to install it within one to two years after launch.

73% of businesses plan to adopt Windows 10 by 2017, which would make it the most rapidly deployed version of Windows in history.

Despite its popularity, only 60% of businesses installed Windows 7 within two years of its launch, Spiceworks said.

However, despite increased interest in Windows 10, 48% of IT professionals said new Windows 10 features made them more likely to consider Windows on tablets and smartphones.

64% of respondents say they are most interested in the return of the Start button and 55% are excited about the ability to upgrade free from Windows 7 and 8/8.1.

Spiceworks carried out the survey, which included over 500 respondents from North America and EMEA.

Spiceworks VP of marketing Sanjay Castelino said: "Over 100 million new PCs, about half of which will be purchased by commercial organizations, will hit the global market over the remainder of 2015.

"Microsoft's stated goal of 1 billion Windows 10 devices in 2-3 years is achievable, and strong interest from IT buyers bodes well for the entire Windows 10 ecosystem

.

"However, it's important for technology brands to understand the issues that matter most to IT buyers in a business context do not align with those of consumers, and brands should prepare to educate IT professionals accordingly."
