Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Update to 2.1.8

This update is being sent out slowly to start so only a small number of users will receive it today. But we hope to ramp up quickly over the next week or so. We haven’t posted any information on our website yet about this release, but that will come as soon as the update has been made more widely available.

This release is limited to users updating from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.1.4 or greater to start, so we don’t have a direct download link to share right now. I will update this topic with a way to access the full download once we’re ready to do so.

Please post questions or report any issues on our main Help forum here.

Here's what’s new in v.2.1.8:

Improvements:
•License key is now displayed on the My Account screen
•Remaining subscription duration now displayed on My Account screen
•Implemented other licensing improvements to clarify license status
•Enhanced protection capabilities of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Web Protection
•Numerous enhancements to prepare for full compatibility with Windows 10
•Enhanced Malwarebytes Chameleon's ability to fully restore Malwarebytes functionality when affected by a malware infection
•Updated data collection techniques to improve malware research and analysis
•Removed "Exclude" button on Website Blocked notification to reduce inadvertent allowing of malicious sites
•Updated button text on Malware Detected and Non-Malware Detected notifications to clarify meaning
•Added enhanced support for High DPI displays
•Enabled the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free version to receive incremental database updates
•Added appropriate copyright notices and license statements for all third-party open source software
•Corrected translation errors for core non-English languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Polish)
•Added support for Chinese Traditional, which is provided as a convenience for our users by a community volunteer and is not an officially supported language
•Several improvements to malware detection and remediation capabilities

Issues Fixed:
•Reverted the temporary change in v.2.1.6 that disabled checking for updates prior to scheduled scans
•Fixed SDK Database load errors for error code 2 and 1812
•Removed obsolete "Terminate program when no threats are found" setting since scans now run from the tray application
•Fixed several crashes that could occur during scan and quarantine operations
•Fixed crash that occurred when clicking the Clear Policies link on Access Policies screen
•Fixed issue where "Show notification after successful update" setting was not properly retained during upgrade from v.2.1.4 to v.2.1.6
•Fixed issue where "Close notification" setting was not retained during upgrade from v. 2.1.4 to v.2.1.6 if the user had changed that setting back to 7 seconds after installing v.2.1.4
•Fixed issue on the Quarantine screen where unselecting a quarantined item disabled the Delete and Restore buttons
•Fixed issue where incorrect program version was listed in the scan logs
•Disabled option to specify rootkit scanning as part of a Hyper scan
•Fixed issue in Windows 10 Tech Preview and Windows 8.1 where Malwarebytes Anti-Malware was unable to start in certain cases after self-protection was turned on
•Fixed issue where Malwarebytes Chameleon did not load properly on Windows XP SP3 in certain conditions
•Fixed issue which prevented Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v.2.1.4 (and higher) from upgrading over certain Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v.1.75 consumer builds

Official downloak link now available here:

Seems like still being "This update is being sent out slowly to start so only a small number of users will receive it today. But we hope to ramp up quickly over the next week or so. We haven’t posted any information on our website yet about this release, but that will come as soon as the update has been made more widely available."

We kind of need an official download link for it to be posted on the frontpage. Latest version seems to be 2.1.8.1057

Like you say patience is a virtue. Someone posted on Malwarebytes community forum that his license got invalidated after upgrading!

Yes new licensing system, but they give you 412 days of premium license with keygen generated serials. So at the end seems not a problem as in 412 days a lot of water flows down the river.

I'll keep to version 2.16 then. I'm not taking any chances with my bought lifetime license :P

412 days? That's strange. Keygen generated licenses were endless. This new ”license” it's more than a year, and less than two years. As if the license started around the first decade of August 2014(if we speak about 2 years license).

To solve Update DataBase Problem

It's quite simple.

Open explorer, and go to here :

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Double click on the file hosts

Choose notepad to open it

At the end of the file add this line :

54.230.89.168 data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Save the file

Now , open MBAM and click on 'update now'

It should update to database version -> v2015.06.21.03 at the moment

see here below

This program uses more physical and virtual memory than anything else executing in my system.

Peak private bytes = 578 MB

Peak working set = 540 MB

WTF

(I have lots of RAM, but that's not the point)

Every version since 2.x has this issue. Guess I should uninstall it again... I despise bloatware with a passion.

Very good point. I therefore love small and sweet programs such as 7-zip and WinRAR the like.

actuality the program dont run as a service unless you use pro version . I just use the scanner witch is free with the stable version its using 250 mb of ram when scanning and scans faster than ever . And when I'm not running it uses nothing . Windows 8.1 x64 .

As you can see the only thing showed up on my pc were 2 patches I have in program folders (false positives)

That insane memory usage was with the free version actually. Yes I think mbam.exe released memory after I closed it, but not until then. Also I would prefer it clean up after itself instead of leaving unnecessary kernel drivers loaded.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware isn't what it used to be.

The times I have used it to find malware on other people's computers, it usually only finds PUPs, which after investigation turn out to be harmless.

I find AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) to be much more effective.

I read where Malwarebytes recently purchased Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) and its developer Thisisu, so maybe things will improve for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in the future.

Edit: Here is the link.

If it effects your pc that much just reboot after scanning . some times my x64 browser uses more ram than it used while scanning .

Hello and post-32477-1261866970.gif :

If rebooting the computer doesn't resolve your issue, I suggest the following:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • IMPORTANT NOTE: The MBAM 2.1.8 installer is NOT YET available at the usual download page. So, when you get to that step in the process please use THIS LINK to download it (otherwise you'll be reinstalling version 2.1.6):
      • If you use the NoScript browser extension, you'll need to enable "box.com" and "boxcdn.net"
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Why did you post the exact same link for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v2.1.8.1057 [06.19.2015] that Siddharta already added to his post?

Its useless and redundant. Don't you think?

This version too buggy to be stable

I had the same problem as this person.

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/169840-mlware-bytes-keeps-trying-to-update/

The databases are not updating and it keeps trying to update then after putting 2.1.6.1022 back in and the old version updates fine. :P

I will uncheck check for program updates and wait tell it gets sorted

seriously i do not know my posting is related to this topic, but relatively i am also having updating problem from 2.1 to till latest version. my point is when i am using mbam 2.0 is updating and scanning works fine without any problem after i updated to 2.1 then drama starts updating problem and some wired things starting to happen. so now i am installed 2.1.8 updating happens only once per day that also 4.30 pm gmt hours. so if i want to scan and update i have to wait until that time until or unless i never update it will say no update found.

ps: if i am using vpn and selected american server address then it update four times a day, so its really weird, really i do not know what to say on this part i am trying to find alternative to mbam. seriously i am missing the good old day of mbam with 1.x version, its period. :(
