Dropbox File Requests: Let Other People Send You Files, Even If They're 2GB

Even users without Dropbox can now send you files

Dropbox announced a cool new feature that will allow you as an account owner to set up a Web page from where other users can send you files, even if they're not Dropbox users.

This feature is appropriately named File Requests and can be accessed from the Dropbox Web interface only (for now) via the dropbox.com/requests URL (you'll need to be signed in to see it).

Once logged in, users can create a special link, where a special page is added with an upload form for other people to add their files to your own Dropbox account. This URL is private and only the account owner can see it and share it with their friends.

After one of these forms is first created, a "/File requests" folder is also added to your Dropbox account, where a separate directory will be added for every new File Requests page you create via the Dropbox website.

All files uploaded by other people will go into their respective form's folder, and you can keep your files organized in a tidy fashion. To keep busy people up to date with their file requests, email notifications are also sent out.

There's a limit on the size of the files people can send you

The Dropbox team has announced that there will be a limit of 2GB per file, so if you want to collect videos or larger ZIP archives, that won't stop you unless you're sending really, really huge files.

File Requests was already tested out by the team in production environments with a few of their selected clients, and it has now started rolling out to the rest of the userbase.

The feature will be available for both Pro and Basic accounts and should be a really useful tool for people who have integrated their Dropbox account into their regular business' workflow. This includes Web designers, developers, people in the financial sector, photographers, and so on.
