Gmail Has a New Login Page

Google wants to help you protect your account

If you have logged in to Gmail lately, you might have noticed something different. An unofficial blog revealed that Google has done some changes to its one-step verification system for the login process.

If before you were required to enter your Google Account username and your password on the main page, you will now be requested to first enter your email address on the first page and then continue to a second page where you will have to type in the password. This other page will also display your Gmail profile picture and the email you used to log in.

Since Google has not officially announced the change, and given that the Help Page has not yet been updated, as it offers the same instructions as before, it is not very clear why they decided to switch to this login process, although the most likely reason is because they wanted to enforce the security measures.

The newly implemented signing-in system is somewhat similar to the one Outlook has, where you also have to type the full email address first and then the password, with the only difference that the latter asks you to enter both on the same page.

Although it kind of slows down the login process because you have to wait for the next page to load, if it was indeed introduced to tighten the protection of Gmail accounts, then the change is more than welcomed

I opened a gmail account a few years back so I could use it to register on youtube.

I seldom use gmail, but just checked... gmail never asks me to login. YouTube does sometimes, maybe once every three days. I don't have chrome browser, I emplty cookies on browser close. So how do they keep track of me ?
