Karamjit Posted May 10, 2015 Share Posted May 10, 2015 Updates will still be released on the second TuesdayMicrosoft is changing its approach towards updates with Windows 10 and everyone now believes that Patch Tuesday could soon become a thing of the past if the company goes on with its plans to deliver updates when they are ready.But it turns out that Patch Tuesday could survive in Windows 10 and users can still receive updates on the second Tuesday of each month if they want to.A statement we received from Microsoft on the fate of Patch Tuesday doesn't specifically mention that its monthly update cycle will live on for all users, but mentions that those who want to get the updates as it happened in the previous Windows versions have the option to do so.“Windows Update for Business can take responsibility for the timely distribution of security updates for customers for free. Customers that choose to distribute updates themselves will continue to receive the updates on the 2nd Tuesday of the month,” the company said.Deciphering the messageWhile it's pretty hard to tell whether Patch Tuesday is part of Microsoft's plans or not, one thing is for sure. For some users, updates will continue to be released on the second Tuesday of each month. But with Windows Update for Business to be offered as well, the process is becoming a little bit more complex.Basically, Windows Update for Business will give customers the option to choose when they want to install the updates, configure the devices that get them first, enable peer to peer delivery and integrate with existing tools.But for the end user where Windows Update for Business is not available, Patch Tuesday could still be available. At the same time, Windows Update for Business customers can also get all updates on Patch Tuesday and only then choose when to install them.Obviously, there are more things to be clarified on the fate of Patch Tuesday, but Microsoft isn't yet ready to share more info, pretty much because it's yet to finalize plans for Windows 10. Back to only once a month pre-checking for problems, installing updates, having nervous jitters, fingers crossed, wondering if Windows will still boot afterwards. :)With flavours of Linux, continual updates are fine, with Windows... nope... banned Posted May 11, 2015 Share Posted May 11, 2015 ^ Yeah, the current update experience in Windows 10 is junk IMO. I'm no longer able to pick and choose specific updates as required. Also, clicking on info link no longer opens the knowledgebase article in default browser.It's something I hope they change before RTM, or I'll just be sticking with XP/7/8 even longer... After offering updates and clicking on information about the update the site does not open ! What are they doing for the f*** with Win7 ????
