Exploding Kittens supported by 219,382 backers on Kickstarter

The funding campaign for Exploding Kittens card game has ended with 219,382 backers on crowdfunding website Kickstarter. The project has become the most backed project on the crowdfunding website and has raised $8.78 million.

Exploding Kittens has also become the third most funded project on Kickstarter. Earlier, Pebble Smartwatch and Coolest Cooler projects have raised impressive amount on the crowdfunding website.

After Exploding Kittens project was launched on Kickstarted, it reached its goal of raising $10,000 within 20 minutes. The card game will be a strategic version of Russian Roulette with an interesting variation.

Within 30 days, the project has become the most popular project on Kickstarter. Speaking about the success of the campaign, game designer Elan Lee said, “Before we started the campaign, I called a number of fulfillment houses and asked for quotes to package and ship a card game based on our estimates. Two weeks ago I got a return call from one of those houses.”

Backers offering $20 for the project will receive a standard deck. For NSFW version, the developers required $35. Within 3 days of its launch, the project managed to raise $3 million. After the project’s success was reported by media, it received more attention from game lovers.

The two or four player game is suitable for players above seven. Lee and his team comprising of Shane Small and The Oatmeal cartoonist Matthew Inman will have a lot of work in near future as they deliver what they have promised to Kickstarter users.
