How to get Windows 10 folder icons in Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP

Yuuup!

Recommended Posts

Windows 10 Technical Preview features really nice folder icons which look very stylish and modern. Today I would like to share with you how you can get these awesome icons for folders in Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. Just follow these instructions.

1.Download the ZIP archive from HERE.
2.Extract the icons folder to your C: drive so the path you get is C:\Icons.
3.Double click the C:\Icons\INSTALL.REG file to apply the new icons to all folders.
4.Close all Explorer windows and restart Explorer. Alternatively, instead of restarting Explorer.exe, you can log off and log back in to your Windows user account.

That's it! The result will be as follows (I installed the icons in Windows 7):

Before:

After:

Windows-10-icons-in-Windows-7-and-Window

To uninstall the folder icons, first double click the C:\icons\UNINSTALL.REG file and restart the Explorer shell. Thereafter, you can safely delete the C:\Icons folder.

Sorry,my friend, but to be honest;I am not impressed by these Win10-icons, if I compare them with my Win7-icons .

This could become very nice when 10 is out........

Cheers!

IMHO, the icons from the original Windows 7 (Before) are looking slightly better than the Windows 10 Preview (After.)

BTW, both those icons are looking extremely ugly compared to the ones on my Windows 8.1 Update 3. :P

Looks very special, indeed, never seen these before!

Its not Win 8.1, but something extra I guess ?

Had a dual-boot Win7/Win8.1, but my icons were not so special as yours......

Are your desktop-icons special also?

Personally, I prefer an uncluttered Desktop - however, I do make use of a Desktop Docking System:--
