anuseems
Windows 8 was designed to bridge the gap between tablets and PCs, but left customers cold. What does this mean for Microsoft and Windows 10?From ZDNet:The stunning, out-of-nowhere success of tablets was making the PC look stodgy and out-of-date, so Microsoft had to show that Windows could still be relevant beyond its traditional desktop home. The company's response was Windows 8, with its colourful tiled interface and the emphasis on Windows as a touchscreen operating system for a new age of computing a bet-the-company move, according to then-CEO Steve Ballmer. To reinforce the shift, Microsoft even developed its own new PC-tablet hybrid, the Surface, to show off the potential of the new operating system.http://www.zdnet.com/windows-8-why-microsofts-giant-gamble-didnt-pay-off-7000035735/
banned
The worst part about Windows 8 was that Windows Server carried the same theme. And here we were, thinking enterprise was a huge part of Microsoft's business.
Beamslider
The problem with Surface for the most part is price. Too expensive.
VileTouch
thing is desktops are NOT stodgy and out of date... if anything they're they're the best platform for raw power!you cannot run a large server from a laptop...let alone a tablet!you cannot do video editing or 3d modeling from a tablet, and most laptops will choke, and that's expected because of the meager specs that the size allows.saying anything else is just ignorant.. but then again today's companies profit from ignorance! heyyahblah
Thank you for that post Vile. You hit it right on the nose bud. Especially with all the new technology coming around like 4K definition is just one example. They expect users to abandon the desktop when laptops and tables and even apple garbage can't compare let alone have enough power. It's been a while since I posted, and it's been even longer since I created a new build. I run a small multimedia business, mostly videography and my partner does do 3d modeling. In the last month I have begun to shoot partially in 4K, trying to transistion to full 4K i am fully capable, and with my current build, I am struggling to playback 4K video footage. My budget for a full new build is about $3500. Considering the CPU, MOBO, RAM, GPU, and new monitor all have to fit into that ceiling, it's a lot of decisions.I was thinking 5930k & Titan 12GB. Single or Dual 980's would be sweet and still less $$$ than a Titan. Not sure on the specs head to head. Because If you want to play stuff in 4k its better to get 8GB vRAM cards, otherwise it's not going to cut it when they bump the texture and Also Titans are only worth it for the double precision memory.Yet those mindless corporations are not even thinking about that.Sorry I know I kinda went off track but I had to vent as well.Good post! Kudos.

Kudos.:)for now i suggest you stay with 1080p for the sake of productivity. without going into much detail, agencies expect footage in 4k but then they can't use it and end up down-sampling it anyway.if you're still into serious business i'd suggest you forget about Titans and go for a Quadro. they stink for most "consumer" purposes, like gaming, but it's the best money can buy for rendering. nIGHT
As far as I know no single gpu can handle 4k. you need at least 1440p which requires at least two gaming gpu.And viletouch is right, since you're doing 3d modeling, Quadro will be much suited for your needs than gaming gpu. heyyahblah
Thanks guys! Its a shame that the laptops and tablets and apples cannot do that :)Appreciate the link.
MidnightDistortions
I actually commend Microsoft for creating such an awkward OS. I wouldn't have gotten into Linux otherwise. Now i can run Windows under Linux. :showoff:

Kudos.I will support desktops until the day i die. With my PC tower capable of holding 8 HDDs, it's now possible for me to get up to 84TB (with 8TB HDDs) of internal storage space (provided the motherboard and OS can handle that much memory)! You simply can't do it with a laptop or any other device and right now i don't believe in keeping all my digital data in the cloud if something goes wrong it's nice to have some of your data backed up on the cloud but otherwise for regular use i prefer to keep my data on local drives. They are easy to upgrade and swap out motherboards and other PC components and they are generally more stable and provides better cooling. I have a laptop and a couple of smartphones (one has a screen broken and the battery is terrible on it) but i prefer getting more for the money i spend, desktops to me are the most economic and also environmentally friendly form factor (other than the power usage, but for a reason!!) as earlier stated you can just swap out a component vs having to upgrade the whole device.Plus how could you not have a PC tower without fans with colored lights!?
