WP Central reports that Microsoft will stop supporting many older versions of Internet Explorer on Windows Vista, 7, and 8.1 on January 12, 2016, in an attempt to get users to move to the most recent versions of their web browser

Microsoft will stop supporting many older versions of Internet Explorer on Windows Vista, 7, and 8.1 on January 12, 2016, in an attempt to get users to move to the most recent versions of their web browser.

For the very few users who are still running a PC with Windows Vista SP2 installed, Microsoft will only support IE 9 after January 12, 2016. The same goes for PCs that are still using Windows Server 2008 SP2. For Windows 7 and 8.1 users, Microsoft will only support IE 11 after that date, ditching support for IE 8, 9 and 10. The same goes for PCs that are using Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. PCs that are using the older Windows Server 2012 will still get support for IE 10.

Please send a kill switch to disable IE 8 and give then the browser screen.

If on XP delete IE and force the ballot prompt thing to show.

Otherwise people will chug along and have no idea the turd they run.

Thank Google for getting everyone else on the automatic silent update train.

It is not long before some old fuddy-duddy turns up on this thread to declare the superiority of his/her Internet Explorer V6. :tehe:

Thankfully even most of the XP die hards have let 6 and 7 die, short of the mega clueless.

I no longer bother with them when dealing with a website, just block them and say upgrade browser.

But there are actually enough IE8 users to not want to do that, and even Windows 7 can use IE8, in case someone never updated.

What is nice about ignoring IE7, is basically IE8 lacks a crap ton of CSS features, but if you go IE7 you need hacks to make common CSS layout stuff work, such as inline-block elements, because the browser it THAT broken.

Why are these people even using IE to begin with :wtf: :pos: :wut:

If it's one thing that i hate is when someone uses an out of date browser, there's no excuse.. with Firefox and Chrome, you don't even have to update. It does it on it's own. Chrome is silent with the updates. I only use IE when some developers who can't get things right on Chrome or Firefox.

Recently, I was TeamViewing one of the member's system (name withheld) and was amused (pleasantly so) to discover that he had deleted iexplore.exe - the simple-most way to be rid of Internet Explorer. :tehe:
