ARMOUR
Windows 9 (Threshold): The Charms bar as you know it will no longer exist on the desktop Windows 9 is pretty much an enigma for each and every one of us since Microsoft doesn’t wish to break the news on this OS version yet, but the plethora of rumors out there at least helps us figure out the number of changes that could be part of this release. A new report coming from ZDNet says that Microsoft is considering removing the Charms bar from the desktop in Windows 9, which would pretty much makes sense since the company is trying to make a bigger difference between SKUs that are optimized for the touch and for the traditional mouse plus keyboard input method.Judging by the number of features that sources close to the matter revealed until now, it turns out that Windows 9’s changelog is going to be huge, including options such as a Start menu and settings to run Metro apps on the desktop in separate windows. While Microsoft is indeed working to bring Modern apps on the desktop, the company is also planning to go the other way around and remove all Metro traces from the desktop and thus restore full Windows 7 desktop functionality in its new operating system.Sources:Winbeta.orgZdnet.COMSoftpedia.com

steven36
Regradless if the remove or dont remove it most wont use it about the only Metro thing i ever used is the document reader if they office they dont need that even .I uninstalled most every thing that had do with metro i could and fixed it were it would just log in to desktop .Merto is the main reason Every O/S prior to Windows 8 , XP and above has been gaining market share While 8x is not gaining. Why should they keep some feature for the few that wants there windows to look like not windows . I'm not sure why people still visit Softpedia... that webpage is overrated, it looks like it was built in 2002, and all the articles posted on it are already posted on other websites. Never read the news, though (and you pretty much explained why it's a waste of time :)).As for the topic, just love to see more and more rumors about the so-destined-to-fail OS9 thrown on the MS fan. Perhaps they spread those themselves in the first place?
steven36
Its still almost a year away anyways no one knows what Microsoft has on there mind except for what Microsoft told us that Microsoft will be come unified. Tell some iso are something leaks no one knows . But to me seems Windows 8x is the worse mistake Microsoft made since Vista . They have a pattern of doing it Windows . ME , Vista , 8x ... and I'm on windows 8.1 but only because my computer came with windows 8 and I upgraded for free .

sinders
I wonder if the desktop UI of Windows 9 will still have the Metro look to it or will they be changing it back to the Windows 7 look.

stylemessiah
Im wondering why they even want Metro anywhere...its not like theres any decent apps in the Microsoft StoreHave you ever been to it? You can literally almost see tumbleweeds rolling across the screen, especially if youre an Android or iOS user.I know exactly 1 person here in Australia who was silyl enough to buy a Windows Phone, and the day i spent trying to find apps equivalent to when she was on an Android Phone was about the most depressing and un user friendly experience in my life....going through the Microsoft Store just proved the rumours...it was mostly full of child like apps that were usually nothing more than html wrappers to websites....nothing to see there. Certainly no apps to replace her Android ones on Windows Phone. The next day she took the evil thing back and got a new Android Phone....and her life went on as normal....Why dont they just admit that they got into the mobile/app market WAY too late and give up, it would solve everything we now hate about WindowsBut i guess they still arent listening and are still drinking the special kool-aid over at Microsoft...if they dont take a reality pill they'll end up like Jonestown over there, that kool-aid will kill you.... oliverjia
Steve Ballmer is such kind of bastards who have too high ego and superficial self-confidence that ruins everything along their way. Sure we understand SB's intention was to create a universal UI for Windows OS either on desktop or on mobile, so that MS can use the huge desktop user base to gain some edge on mobile market, which in most ppl's opinion mobile is the future.Reality is, users don't give a shit to SB's ambition and his dream turns out to be only a wet dream. Bottomline is, MS has to cater to its users, not the other way around, because users have other choices. As to the "mobile is the future" bullshit, I don't give a damn. You need a production desktop/laptop to get your work done. Mobile devices are mostly toy and we are all grown-ups, we know you can't play toys while at work. satviewer2000
How about a Win7 start menu and desktop, but a Win8x style panel to the right side of the screen which would replace the current Win7 gadget panel. Then we can drag and drop individual "apps" of our choice into this new gadget panel. This could be single column or adjustable as needed. Because isn't Win8x just basically a redesigned gadget panel? But, please, PLEASE, do NOT integrate the Win8x-style start screen into the Start Menu! Ashish
MS will certainly not remove metro shit from 9, they are too stubborn to do that. even to admit that metro is an utter failure is to much to them. thier win 8/8.1 market share is surprisingly is falling but still they will not come out of their wet dream called metro mode.their smart phones is a failure (market share wise), surface tablets where they already lost over a billion dollars, so they screwed the desktop/laptop customers to fund these failures.Good, i would love to see them lose a few more billions before they realize that shit has already hit the fan
GRiM
They wont be removing metro, They're simply giving you an option to have them Windowed instead of full screen. The new modern style apps are staying, just not in same way as they are now.
