stylemessiah
Most driver downloaders are a waste of time, include potentially unwanted programs and if using it on a laptop can *possibly* result in non workign devices. On laptops you should always visit the vendors page for driver support as their drivers are often customised specifically for the devices in their laptops. Generally the "drivers" these things present you with are either out of date or scraped from user contributed sites driverguide where its *possible* to get an unverified or user compiled driver which again may actually result in a non working device and or PC/laptop...manys the time ive seen them wreak havoc on a PC, and on more than one occasion where theres been a fault, removing the driver updater software itself has resolved issues. Dont use them, trust me.Dont get me started on how they often lead to "new" update prompts every X days or weeks, only to actually in the background downgrade drivers, only to "update" them back to the same driver you had initially, but present you with fake more up to date version info....trying to lead you to purchase the Pro version believing the software is actually doing something worth paying for. Ive seen this fake downgrade only to update to the exact same driver time and again more times than ive had hot dinners......Then you have things that have been around for a while for volume deployment of drivers, like DriverPacks.net or DriverPack Solution (which started off, and presumably still is) as a no credit given, rip off of DriverPacks.net. Often you'll find that the gigabytes you spend downloading these will only result in finding they consist of outdated drivers...as, if you spend 30 seconds looking at the package update dates over there, you'll soon realise that they are often outdated at best. Personally i dont use these as its just doubling your work, as if you apply driverpacks, you'll then still more than likely find you will still have to manually find more up to date drivers. DriverPack Solution is a bloated waste of download in particular.Summing up, for all the "convenience" of driverpacks and driver updater programs (complete with PUP's), id rather visit the vendor sites and get then on a case by case basis when im building systems. with the common drivers like Realtek and Nvidia, i just download the latest when they come out and keep them in my library for reuse a few dozen times....safest way.Dont be lazy and use a program to automate what you should do manually..... VileTouch
what stylemessiah said...all of it!but also, if you truly have NO idea what device is in the bowels of that box, then pcidatabase can help you identify it so you can go to the vendor's site and get the latest driver. geeteam
When it comes to driver download managers. I think I haven't come to a conclusion to choose from the best.I haven't really gotten the best am looking for from these manufacturers, It seems they all work the same way. When you are looking for the best, I will suggest you visit the manufacturers website and get auto driver identifier. BadPointer
I'm more familiar with driver updaters which don't need the Internet and are free. I can't use them anyway because Internet connection isn't always available and it's quite a chore to download and install all drivers for a specific motherboard.I'm a former DriverPack Solution developer and I'm currently work on Snappy Driver Installer(included in SamDrivers).Read my post over there for more: //www.nsaneforums.com/topic/226395-samdrivers-148-full-multilangual/?p=821908As for drivers in SamDrivers. It consist of original drivers which were downloaded from the official websites. Original installers are usually stripped down because driver updaters aren't using them during installation. Some newer drivers were modified so that they became compatible with older devices. This is why old devices occasionally get updated drivers even though their manufacturer abandoned them a long time ago.
