  17. Radeon graphics users have a major driver update waiting for them now, with AMD today pushing out the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver. It contains support for the upcoming major Windows 11 update 22H2, feature expansions, the long-time-coming OpenGL optimizations, and more. To start with the biggest change being introduced with this driver, AMD has officially brought forward the OpenGL performance updates it began testing last month with a pre-release version. The company only showed performance results for a single OpenGL-based game this time, Minecraft, but community test results should provide a broader picture going forward now that the driver is official. Per AMD, Minecraft had a performance uplift of up to 79% using its high-end RX 6950XT, and up to 75% more performance on its budget GPU RX 6400. During both tests, the block-based sensation was running at 4K using the 'Fabulous' preset. In addition to making the upgrade to Windows 11 version 22H2 a stable one on Radeon graphics, the driver is also adding support for Microsoft Agility SDK Release 1.602 and 1.606, including Microsoft Shader Model 6.7. At the same time, the company is introducing AMD Noise Suppression as a new voice input cleaning feature available in the driver suite, arriving as a rival to Nvidia's RTX Voice. "AMD Noise Suppression reduces background audio noise from your surrounding environment using a real-time deep learning algorithm, providing greater clarity and improved concentration whether you are focused on an important meeting or staying locked-in on a competitive game," explains the company. Other changes coming with the driver include Radeon Boost support for Elden Ring, Resident Evil Village, and Valorant alongside expanded Radeon Super Resolution support on AMD notebooks with hybrid graphics as well as games using borderless windowed modes. Here are the fixed issues in this driver: Lower than expected [email protected]™ compute performance with OpenCL™ API on some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6800. Auto Undervolt may disable Zero RPM fan feature. Hitman 3™ may freeze when rapidly switching between windows in Fullscreen Exclusive mode. Video upscaling in browsers appears blurry with some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon® RX 6900 XT Graphics. Enhanced Sync may cause games to lock to 15FPS with video playback on extended monitors. The known issues are these: Stuttering may be experienced while playing Call of Duty®: Warzone™ on the Caldera map with some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6900 XT Graphics. Radeon™ Super Resolution may fail to trigger after changing resolution or HDR settings on games such as Nioh™ 2. Virtual Reality headsets may flicker with some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6800 XT Graphics. GPU utilization may be stuck at 100% in Radeon performance metrics after closing games on some AMD Graphics Products such as Radeon™ 570. Display may flicker black during video playback plus gameplay on some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6700 XT. Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround. The new AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 is compatible with Windows 11 version 22H2, Windows 10 64-bit version 1809, and later operating systems. The driver can be downloaded via the Radeon Settings app or using the direct link on the official release notes here. AMD 22.7.1 driver has major OpenGL optimizations and Windows 11 22H2 support

  21. One year ago, AMD released the first Radeon Software driver without official Windows 7 support. Starting with version 21.6.1, you need Windows 10 and newer to run the most recent AMD drivers. Still, sometimes developers release unplanned updates to fix specific issues or security bugs in unsupported products. That is what happened to driver 22.6.1 that AMD has now released for systems running the good-old (and now deceased) Windows 7. AMD Radeon Software 22.6.1 focuses on fixing a single Windows 7-related bug: AMD Radeon™ Software may fail to install on some AMD Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6900 XT. The company also warn users about two known issues in driver 22.6.1: Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround. Radeon performance metrics and logging features may intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory clock values. Note that today's release is available only for systems with Windows 7. The most recent update for computers with Windows 10 and 11 is version 22.5.2. 23. With the release of the recent Windows 11 22H2 Insider builds, upcoming GPU drivers from vendors like AMD and Nvidia are getting exposed sooner. Earlier today, we reported about AMD's pre-release driver for Windows 11 22H2. The driver is based on Microsoft's next-gen Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) v3.1 and from early testing it looks like the driver will be a boon for gamers who play games and titles running on the OpenGL API as there is massive performance boost awaiting. And right on the tail of that, it looks like Nvidia's GeForce driver for Windows 11 22H2 has also been leaked. The upcoming Nvidia driver version 525.14, like the earlier AMD Radeon driver, is also based on the latest WDDM v3.1. Though expectedly, the driver is in beta now. Interestingly, Nvidia has already released the Windows 11 22H2 support driver for its Quadro series of GPUs. Here's a TechPowerUp GPU-Z screenshot of the 525.14 driver provided by Guru3D forum member fards: At the moment, it is difficult to guess what we can expect from this driver aside from Windows 11 22H2 support since there is no official release notes for 525.14 yet. However, the folks over on the Guru3D forum who have installed the driver mostly agree that it appears to be a stable release. Nvidia's Windows 11 22H2 WDDM 3.1 GeForce driver 525.14 has also leaked early
  24. For a long time, AMD's drivers and the performance have been subpar compared to Nvidia's drivers for OpenGL. This is one of the reasons why it had developed the Mantle API as it wanted to have a head start in low-level graphics. However, things could be changing for the better soon. In the newest 22H2 Insider builds for Windows 11, Microsoft is offering the AMD pre-release 31.0.12000.20010 UWP driver and the driver package also comes with the 22.05 OpenGL beta driver which massively boosts the performance of AMD GPUs in OpenGL applications. The driver was discovered by members of the Guru3D forum who have been playing around with it. This upcoming driver will be based on the next-gen Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) v3.1. Here is a screenshot of the driver details using TechPowerUp's GPU-Z provided by Guru3D member "The Creator": A number of tests in synthetic benchmarks were also run with this driver and using the OpenGL API renderer, the performance difference is very significant. First up, we have Unigine's 2013 benchmark Valley which sees a performance boost of nearly 55%. Up next, in the more modern Unigine Superposition, the performance difference is more than 33% in favor of the upcoming 22.05 OpenGL driver. Interestingly, though, the driver seems to lose performance in the much older Heaven benchmark, indicating that more optimization may be necessary for very old applications and games. While the above tests were run on an RDNA 2-based Radeon RX 6800 XT, the first-gen RDNA GPUs will also get a healthy boost it seems. Here is a screenshot of Superposition run on a Radeon RX 5700 XT. It looks like AMD's on a bit of a roll lately as the company also recently put out the 22.5.2 driver which brought significant optimizations to several DirectX 11 titles.
