MENLO PARK, CA (WFSB) -

An officer from Los Angeles County took to Twitter on Friday when Facebook users called for help to report that the social media website was down.

Sgt. Burton Brink, the public information officer in La Crescenta, CA, posted a Tweet reminding people about the reasons for calling them for help.

"#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don't call us about it being down, we don't know when FB will be back up!" he wrote.

Users who tried to get on Facebook around noon EST were greeted with an apology.

"Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can," the site posted.

A message posted by a Facebook's developer around noon said the site "is currently experiencing an issue that is affecting all API and web surfaces. Our engineers detected the issue quickly and are working to resolve it ASAP. We'll update shortly."

Facebook returned about an hour later.

If one from one of the European countries calls the Emergency line with these types of requests, he'll find in his mailbox a fine on his name, in the most cases. Depending of the request, if it's not a joke like the above one but it's fake, you might spend few days in jail..

same thing happens here in north america/// quite a few years back was sitting in my back yard with my kids and few neighbors...my phone inside the house( wireless phone) had been auto dialing 911...42 times...the older phones back then would do strange things when the battery was about to die....anyway, suddenly there was 6 cops in my back yard with shotguns and hand guns drawn...long story short they spent 2 hours clearing my yard and house just to make certain nothing was wrong... i was lucky i had a yard full of adults or i may have gotten in trouble for crank calls.... one officer did not believe me that the phone was doing this by itself until he held it in his hands and it dialed 911 5 times in two minutes.... unplugged the phone smashed it and put in the garbage and went out and got one not so cheap this time

Just shows how pathetic Facebook and its users are what ever happened to going out and MEETING FACE TO FACE with people.

IMHO with all the trouble faceCRAP causes it should be banned.

I have for one or two customers blocked it on their machines so as to stop the Kids getting involved and I agree with them.
