Microsoft-Issues-End-of-Support-Warning-

Redmond today rolled out a new advisory to warn that support for several software products across its range is coming to an end, which basically means that those running it should upgrade to a newer release as soon as possible.

There’s no doubt that Windows 7 is the number one entry on the list, with Microsoft warning that support for Enterprise, Enterprise N, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Professional N, Starter, Start N, Ultimate, and Ultimate N packages is ending on January 13, 2015.

While these Windows 7 versions are exiting mainstream support, they will still get extended support for an additional 5 years, but Microsoft says that it’s anyway recommended to upgrade as soon as possible just to make sure that you’re completely secure.

As ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley writes, Windows Server 2003 is also about to reach complete end of support next year, so Microsoft obviously warns that it might take more than expected to finalize the transition to a newer release, no matter which one you choose.

"With the average Windows Server taking over 200 days to migrate, now it is the time to act and start planning for your migration," the company said in a statement, trying to emphasize that it’s better to create a plan to complete the upgrade to a supported OS version in time. "With the Architectural changes in 32 bit to 64 bit technology – everything changes in Windows Server 2012."

As you can see, Microsoft seems to be ready to start a new and very long upgrading process of its software, even though the company still struggles to convince those on Windows XP to switch to either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

At the same time, it’s also working on some pretty critical updates for the Windows platform, including a brand new Windows version that could hit the market in early 2015 as Windows 9.

Of course, Windows 9 is considered to play a key role in Microsoft’s strategy to move users to newer platforms, so it remains to be seen how many users would actually give up on their current Windows installation to switch to Windows 9 when it hits the market.

I don't think that Microsoft dare pull the lid over Windows 7 - it has a loyal fan-following just like XP had.

I am using Windows 8.1, and personally, I don't have any problem with it. But, people, in a general way, hate it... :wtf:

If they are going to pull the plug for Windows 7, they will have to make a very good Windows 9...

I knew it was only a matter of time before Microsoft started sh!tingt on Windows 7 users as well. Microsoft says you better "upgrade" to Windows 8.

Psych. I'm still using XP, hahaha!

To be honest, they don't "start" anything. The support end dates are usually announced as soon as the product is released to market and are usually about 5 years. For example, windows 8 end dates have been known from day one.

Sometimes they even extend those dates further.

Good luck with that, they haven't convinced XP users yet. :lmao:

So just a question? Is this truely the end of support by the posted dates for windows 7 or just a warning that it is coming? I am confused?

These are really very strange dates. Previously, were the other dates. I personally do not want to believe it, I think it is some kind of trade trick once again.

And if they are true dates, then it means - the end of the Windows is coming soon.

But I still believe that it is just a commercial gimmick - after all, everything is going very badly in recent years for the Windows.

Economically, I think. (Windows development is standing already for more than 10 years . Only a bit of a facelift is done.)

I have purchased and used numerous operating systems that are windows and I have never asked for support from Microsoft.

I think they should give me a discount on windows 9 or 10 or 11 whenever I choose to leave 7.

Though 7 is so good I don't want to leave it.

Microsoft using scare tactics?
Its all about the money that they can make by using this method for people to upgrade.

Support does not actually end until 2020

Yes that's if its not like XP was and they even extend updates even longer . By the time they done away with updates on windows XP 3 new windows were out . Its just hype to try to get people to buy windows 8.1 but if you dont already have it I would not buy it . Because Windows 9 and most likely more newer than that will be out by the time they do away with windows 7 updates.

I am willing to take the plunge from windows 7 to 9, preferably after the glitches have been ironed out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hmm... I'm not scared by this at all... Windows 7 with SP1 is so good that they didn't see a point in releasing SP2 for it... lol.. It ends Jan 2020 as stated by Microsoft, so they should atleast honor that.. Looking forward to Windows 9 thou...

End of Support Warning for Windows 7

So they switched to aggressive intimidation technique... Nice. Well, makes sense since the majority of internet users today are not tech-savvy or well-informed in general in terms of IT specifics. Gullible users - easy to manipulate and channel their spending habits. If successful, of course.

Still, their way-too-eager Win8 tablet product placement in each and every movie and TV show only makes me laugh (or puke - because there's so much of it). Win8 is shit, of course, but - knowing the history of MS failures and fixes - probably 9 will be worth pirating.

Oh, and I wonder how they define mainstream and extended support exactly.
