calguyhunk
Et tu Filehippo? :wtf:Cannot believe Filehippo too would go this way, as if Cnet wasn't bad enough. One of the last remaining bastions of clean, honest file hosting. Sad day for all netizens :(But truth be told, what else can you expect from a world where even Sourceforge has gone rogue? Sourceforge, I say. No less! :nono:Having said that though, if you could go past the sheer annoyance of downloading additional unwarranted $h!t, a lot will also depend on which companies they choose to do business with. Yahoo (Search, Toolbar), Google (Chrome, Search, Toolbar), Adobe (Reader, Flash) are one thing and Open Candy, Ask, Babylon are something else. :mad2:Oh well. At least MajorGeeks, Softpedia and FileHorse still haven't sold their souls!. Thank God for the small mercies ;)EDIT: I'm still getting direct download links on FH without any sign of the web installer/download manager. Maybe it's a scattered roll out either randomly or based on geography? :dunno: Either way, this sucks  Edited July 8, 2014 by calguyhunk

banned
I still use an older version of their updateChecker tool. Don't know what kind of information it has been collecting from my system all this time. Hopefully just benign things like software version numbers, operating system, and such. Maybe I should fire up Wireshark and have a look at what it's really doing. Edited July 8, 2014 by banned
