Siddharta
Luis Suarez bite ban: Uruguay President Jose Mujica insults FifaUruguay's President Jose Mujica has called football's world governing body Fifa "a bunch of old sons of bitches" over Luis Suarez's four-month ban. The 79-year-old described the punishment, which also included a suspension for nine international matches, as a "fascist ban". Suarez received the harshest sanction in World Cup history for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini. Mujica is renowned for his plain-speaking manner. He made the comments to state TV at a reception for the Uruguay team, following their elimination from the World Cup last 16 by Colombia. The president covered his mouth to feign shock at what he had said, but told journalists to "publish it" when asked if he wanted to rectify his remarks. Mujica admitted that Suarez deserved to be disciplined, but said his suspension was too harsh. "They could have punished him, but not given him this fascist ban," he said. The former leftist guerrilla had previously said Suarez was being punished by Fifa because of his humble background. He also denounced the ban in his weekly radio address as an "eternal shame" in the history of the World Cup. Oscar Tabarez's side suffered a 2-0 defeat in their last-16 tie against Colombia after being forced to do without their star striker because of the ban. Uruguay's football federation said it would appeal against Fifa's punishment. Source: Edited July 1, 2014 by Siddharta

calguyhunk
hard core sports fans say a lot od silly things...this one just happens to also run a countryHard core, parochial, partial and dumb sports fans. Anybody who's smart enough to be able to put his emotions aside and judge this whole episode objectively would realize that FIFA couldn't have done anything else. ;)This was the third time this guy was caught biting somebody! Third time, no less. He got ten games for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic and seven matches for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal. He's lucky to have escaped a bigger punishment this time 'round IMO. :wtf:What kind of people bite somebody BTW! Not condoning violence, but you punch, kick, slap, headbutt, or even elbow somebody when you're angry maybe, but bite? WTF! Put psychopaths like him and Tyson away, I say. Or at least send them to a shrink for much needed therapy ASAP. :o

dMog
never once in my short post did i defend this guy and what he said...and never once did i claim hard core sports fans have even a modicum of reality or are capable of calm rational thought...that is why they are hard core fans because they can allow themselves to let emotions take over their rational thoughts..That being said, the next thing fifa must do is clean up on the players who take dives...some players and superstars have been among other things caught punching themselves in the face to show the ref what an opponent did to them....in a game that used to and still claims to take pride in good sportsmanship the governing body has let dives become common place
AlexCross
He should have received a big fine and the equivalent of a red card...There are players who pick a fight 3-4 times/seasons and they get away with just a yellow card. Take Pepe example. Edited July 1, 2014 by AlexCross
Siddharta
Had Pepe been Suarez, he would have been banned for a lifetime (or two, especially in the Premier League, just in case he might resurrect)!!! :rolleyes:Since what Pepe did is much more common, it is far less serious for FIFA. Siddharta
Matuidi ( PSG midfielder ) deserved red card for this foul against the Nigerian player yesterday in the World Cup, but the referee only showed him a yellow card. Matuidi arrived very late and dug the spikes of his boot against Onazi's ankle who had to leave injured. In fact he broke his leg, both fibula and tibia!. What is FIFA going to do in his case? Will they punish him for 4 months? See video here - or wherever you like! Edited July 1, 2014 by Siddharta

Siddharta
some morons take this football too seriousyea and this particular moron happens to be the leader of a country If you were to meet him, you'll discover he is a plainspoken fellow, sometimes quite ordinary but terribly intelligent. No one nearby ( and I daresay in the world ) understimates his intelligence! He is quite old and about to leave his job ergo he can afford to speak his mind, while the rest of us only dare to think.By the way, I wonder how FIFA will punish the perpetrator of this....Shouldn't punishment be proportional to the damage caused?
