Robolinux-7-5-4-Wants-to-be-the-Ultimate

Robolinux is a fast and easy to use Linux distribution based on Debian and its developer has added a number of important changes and improvements since the previous edition.

Robolinux uses a piece of technology called Stealth VM Software, which allows users to create a clone of a Windows Operating System with all the installed programs and updates. It should work, in theory, but there isn't enough feedback to see how good this particular solution really is.

Besides this important feature that is one of the most important ones implemented in this distribution, the developer has also made a few other major changes and he has added quite a few new packages.

“We've been listening carefully to our User Base and have delivered many popular upgrades plus expert Tech Support for Robolinux Version 7.5.4.”

“According to our Users, Forums do not provide satisfactory or timely Support so now the Robolinux Stealth VM and C Drive to VM software downloads which run on all 500 Linux Operating Systems now include prompt expert Tech Support since most Windows users want immediate answers to their questions while they are installing our software” said the developers in the official announcement.

According to the changelog, users can now use the Netflix after the necessary Silverlight emulator plugin has been added to the Robolinux "Proprietary & Other Software Installers", the Plex Media Server has been added to the Robolinux "Proprietary & Other Software Installers" so the user can install it with just one click, Skype has been updated to the newest version 4.3, the Kdendlive Linux Video Editor has been added to the Robolinux "Proprietary & Other Software Installers", and Unetbootin has been added to the newest version in Robolinux, which comes with a fix for an old DVD error bug.

Also a current Firefox installer has been added (sometimes Debian overwrites Firefox with an Iceweasel software update), and all upstream security and regular Debian Stable updates have been added to Robolinux.

To make things even more interesting, the Linux Live Creator Windows executable files has been added to the download section in the FAQ web page. Windows users will now be able to choose between Unetbootin and Linux Live Creator to install Robolinux from a USB stick.

More details about the Stealth VM Software and Robolinux can be found in the official changelog. Also, you can download Robolinux 7.5.4 right now from Softpedia, for both the 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

My question is, why these devs try to make Linux into WIndows? People who chose Linux, have a great reason to do so. Most of the Linux distro already have a better mouse environment than Windows..

It looks pretty good until one looks more closely...I did, and to me it looks a bit deceptive.

They are offering multiple packages, some of which one must buy despite how their site crows about being 'free'.

As to it's 'free' stuff - when I looked there I saw buttons requiring small, minimum donations instead of download links.

Free ?? Maybe not ??

Meh.

It may be found via Distrowatch=>

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=robolinux

Here is also a link to some of its files at Sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/robolinux/files/

Here is the direct link for one option of the above:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/robolinux/robolinux32v7.4.1.iso

This distro does seem to be very VM oriented and seems like it might be ideal for making a windows=>Linux switch...

Seems like it would be very cool to try out as long as it is a 100% freebie - but it looks like their super-duper VM stuff is for pay only.

Aside of this distro there are many other good things windows 'orphans' can choose from should they wish to avoid contributing to the mikr0$haft wealth & world domination.

My preferred configuration is likely to remain Ubuntu + LXDE + XP running in VMWare Player because it is easy, very fast & stable.

I'll likely give this Robolinux a spin though when I have time to get it's ~2GB ISO.

My question is, why these devs try to make Linux into WIndows?

because Linux is not really user friendly for the "common people" as Windows, also for the "common people" that is already familiarized with Windows is hard to use other interfaces that doesn't look/work similar.

like when somebody renew the car, is expected that the new car can be driven and used in similar conditions of the previous car, otherwise the user will need to learn the usage instructions again and the users doesn't like that.

I agree 100% with what Spectrum said, and:

There are many good features about Linux in general (like its extreme stability at zero cost...).

Sadly the downside of using Linux alone is that there are about a zillion windows apps which have no easy Linux replacements - so it is good to be able to keep a bunch of those running when one switches to a nice, free Linux distro.

As to building one's own:

Why bother when there are already so many to try for free and then pick from ??

I suppose if one needs a new occupation with alot of study, trials and errors that might be good to do.

For me=>

It's really enough to do to get into a new OS and then to tweak it to my own liking, and then to add a way to use a VM of windows and some windows apps.

Well, that problem was fixed long time ago, now users don't have to log into terminal to work in Linux, they can log into the mouse environment that offers the same and I'd say even powerfull mouse environment than Windows. (Mouse environment means that you can do what you see, similar to Windows, you don't need to be a programmer to work with it, as in the console).

Most of the Windows softwares are useless, people like to use 30 music players, 3-4 browsers, and lot's of other stuff that can be easly found in Linux but not in the same amount.

why not build something from scratch instead of playing with Linux distributions.

Im sure thats what the ReactOS people thought, at first, a long time ago, before they realised just how hard it is to build a non-proprietary version of windows :)

There is no law against daydreaming - Linux could not succeed in almost 2 decades (no harm in trying, though.)
