sternog
Sadly numerous false positives of this application are killing me, I`m thinking of switching back to using Kaspersky, even though it caused BSODs on my system before.

stylemessiah
Sheesh, the amount of BS being spouted about Avast on here lately is comical.....Number 1 Myth debunked: False positives -Im willing to bet that all these "false positives" you keep whining about are actually Avast warning you with "Malware:Gen" warnings. These come in response to a lot of keygens. Its doing its job, just because you might "trust" the keygen and where you got it from, doesnt mean its not potentially dangerous. Stop whining and blaming Avast, put the dummy back in your mouth and run the keygen in a sandbox like a sane non whiny intelligent person.Number 2 Myth debunked: "It cant protect itself" -Anyone making this claim is just plain stupid. I manage about 43 servers and several thousand clients with Avast on them. As ive pointed out before, my Avast management console debunks all the ridiculous myths you whiners and haters come up with on here.Number 3 Myth debunked: "All Avast users details stolen"As per the previously linked article: http://anonymz.com/?http://betanews.com/2014/05/27/avast-hacked-400000-user-details-stolen/About 400,000 (at worst) Avast FORUM users accounts may have been compromised.Yeah, so what. Avast didnt make the software that ran their forum, so....you know, go spread malicious gossip about the company thats really responsible....Avast proactively warned people when it happened. they didnt wait as long as ive seen some other "security" companies, or ebay, have to let people know.Hands up is any of your forum details including passwords have any resemblence to any details and passwords on your actual PC...okay those with yuor hands up are idiots.....you never use passwords for physical PC's or devices for internet forums, email accoutns etc.So yeah, let me know if you want me to debunk anynmore of your BS on here, im happy to do so, on a PC safely protected by Avast...... sternog
It`s not only about keygens etc, Avast also flagged some legitimate program components - mp3 codec dll in dBpoweramp Music Converter and EZ CD Audio Converter for example. Also, how about this: http://greatis.com/blog/do-not-trust-avast-antivirus So your post doesn`t actually prove anything to me, sir.

So yeah, debunkedAnd as for the link, funny i had several thousand clients PC's and as ive said before 43 servers on avast for years,, and even funnier was they were all on Avast well before the date quoted in that linked article, and i would tend to remember if suddenly ALL those PC's had their tcpip stack deleted by Avast....pure bs...debunkedShall we keep going? sternog
What nonsense are you talking about? I don`t change any dlls, they come original as they were and Avast did flag them, I`m not blind and stupid whatever you might think. What I did was simply installing dBpoweramp retail from jalaffa (digitally signed by the developer) and Avast tried to delete the codec dll when installing. I fully endorse the "seek therapy" mantra, especially where it is clearly neededSee what youve done, by inserting yourself into a conversation that had no bearing on you, and assserting yourself as a paragon of all things right is become what we traditionally refer to as a troll...Cherio old bean Edited June 27, 2014 by stylemessiah

stylemessiah
@sternog is right. I had the same prolems with false postvies in TAudioConverter its clean open source freeware the renametool.exe .. Also in AIMP3 it didnt like the basscd.dll.. I been useing AVAST for over 5 years so not knocking it but it does have more fasle postives than it use too. I hate to say it but youre also blaming Avast for something that isnt their problemI just tried installing TAudioConverter, which you call "clean opensource freeware"When i just went to install it it had 3 (at least) bundled apps, including one to hijack your browser, embedded in itAnd so, yes Avast popped up a warning, after i had manually declined all the bundleware, to let me know that despite me manually declining the bundleware, the installer was still going to try and copy it to my HDD.So again, where is that Avasts fault? Its whoever packaged TAudioconvertor you should be complaining about...For the record, and because i think it might explain all these 'false positive" claims.....allow me to explain whats going on....quite a lot of software which has bundleware embedded in it will attempt to, even when you de-select or decline it, copy the bundleware payload to your HDD. If you call a popup from Avast on this scenario a "false positive" then im sorry, but it isnt. This is Avast doing what its supposed to do, protect your PCIf you get an AV program that doesnt put up a warning in the above scenario, like i said earlier, please let me know, so i know not to install it
