geeteam
It's almost common knowledge now that Microsoft are currently developing a second update for Windows 8.1, which should further improve the operating system before Windows 9 launches next year. Currently, not much is known about Windows 8.1 Update 2 other than the fact that it will arrive in August-September of this year, however today new information may have surfaced regarding its size and delivery method. Before we continue, we must stress that the information you're about to lay your eyes upon could be false, so take it with a grain of salt. According to a user at EightForums, a Microsoft Rep has unveiled that Microsoft are currently in the process of training its support employees for Windows 8.1 Update 2. The rep claims that Update 2 will land in August/September of this year, and that it will be delivered through the Windows Store much like Windows 8. The rep also claims that Windows 8.1 Update 2 will be a hefty 3GB in size, making us believe that Update 2 won't be like Windows 8.1 Update 1, but more like Windows 8.1 as a whole compared to Windows 8. 3GB is somewhat a significant increase in size compared to Update 1, which maxed at around 700MB. Of course, the user on the forum could just be making things up, and we're yet to confirm if other Microsoft Reps are claiming similar things. So, we advise that you take what you've read here with a grain of salt until we can get more concrete information regarding the matter. Delivering through the Windows Store is interesting, as the first time around it really didn't work as well as many had hoped it would. Windows 8.1 launched in the Store with errors and super slow download speeds, which many users were not happy about. In the meantime, what are you hoping for in Windows 8.1 Update 2? It was recently rumored that the Start Menu, that was originally supposed to arrive in Windows 8.1 Update 2, won't be making it's way to our computers until 2015 with Windows 9, so a Start Menu is off the list for now. I hope its the same with update 2...Windows 9 is near and we all know...This will be a good OS...like the chronic tells ;) Edited June 19, 2014 by Blackchildcx
dcs18
Initially, Windows 8.1 was also deployed through Windows Store . . . . . . . . . . . exclusively and met with an inevitable disaster - Microsoft, consequently was forced to release the same, in ISO format.FWIW, I have no personal problem with a Store release as long as it is also available as a downloadable image - it is anyways counter-productive to perform an in-place-patch-update rather than a full, clean upgrade install.Having said all of that, we must not forget the most important fact - the above news is just a rumor (just another sperm in the test-tube.) Rok
First of, a big joke...........an Update at 3 GB.............With, what MS is thinking, a 20 GB Windows 9 OS release. Second, having a 3GB update in Store, who is gonna download it.....do they think every country / people are now on super fast broadband. Or, they are planning to update people(s) internet before releasing such an huge update. I think most people will skip this and will wait for Windows 9 to come out. Don't complain MS for your stupidity.
Tunerz
So update 2 would be like what happened from 8 to 8.1 upgrade then, assuming the info was accurate. MS would just release another ISO after another barrage of complaints of update 2 failing to install via Windows Store in the future.

SPECTRUM
well, is 3GB but I guess (like in previous service packs) you will not need to download 3GB if you have already some updates installed, it just will download 700MB~900MB or around.

irefay
Of course, the user on the forum could just be making things up, and we're yet to confirm if other Microsoft Reps are claiming similar things. So, basically someone on a forum SAID they were a MS rep, then posted some questionable information. I am guessing the "MS Rep" is approximately 15 years old and has parents who do not give him enough attention.

Blackchildcx
And nice for people using a traffic counted conection...I know a guy paying 20€ for 5 GB....We, having a fast n stable conection which can be used with no limitations are happy....But for the others this is not a nice info...An ISO can be grabbed once from anywhere and b used @ home...store update not! Update 1 was around 700MB, and that should be the same for Update 2. Of course, the 3GB references the full release of Windows 8.1 Update 2. Much like Update 1, Microsoft will release ISO's with Update 2 slip streamed.
