dcs18
Oh yes, that is the EAV not ESS (no ESS User has ever volunteered for testing, either.) I'm using it. Do you want to help me setting via a teamviewer session? :D// sleep now, see you again.Oops, looks like I was at the ShoutBox, when you posted this - sorry about that. :PWell, I have never been able to use the inadequate ESS for more than a week - the last version I tried was the V3 (a really long long time ago.)I am familiar with the Windows Firewall Control but not at all sure whether the ESS supports the new principle of allowing only selective IPs while blocking all the other IPs, as illustrated in step # 06.) of the guide and also reproduced below:--

steven36
Am I the one reporting first?Still working here and I'm using nothing but windows firewall maybe you didn't follow instructions right ? And no your not the 1st person it stopped working for . How did you have it setup ?
dcs18
This the the screenshot of Firewall setup for ESETI see a discrepancy - your screenshot reflects 3 rules for ekrn.exe instead of the stipulated 2 (besides, I would like to take a closer look at each one of those 3 rules - as a full-figure window, containing every parameter of each individual rule.)Did you follow each and every one of those 7 steps - to the letter (would like to also see a screenshot of your custom schedules?)Would also like to know the expiry date of your key. steven36
I done it a bit different from you but the only thing done different was I done steps 5&6 before I done steps 2&3 my key never touched the activation servers . and it activated after reboot and still working OK.. If ESET adds rule automatically to the firewall, there's nothing on which the rule 7 can help.

steven36
Maybe you need to team view it with him more cases than not trough this topic when using WFC always . People never can get it right . Even I had trouble using it with TU it trying to make rules for stuff that was already blocked . Since I switched to just using Windows FW its been all blue skies and sunshine . Best thing I ever done was get rid of that 3rd party app! :D
dcs18
Now I have removed the rule created by ESET and will see if it creates it again. Please do not experiment - just configure your WFC and then, the rules correctly.Expiry Date: 16.10.2014Expired keys do not work - they cannot be reused.Have found over TeamViewer that many folks back-date their systems in order to use expired keys to activate their copy of ESET, by rebooting. This does not work, in the longer run - a valid key has to be activated online.yes, expired keys can be activated successfully - but no, such activations cannot be retained by the firewall (or anything else.)I have followed upto rule number 6.No you have not - you screwed up at step # 5 and step # 6. If ESET adds rule automatically to the firewall, there's nothing on which the rule 7 can help.If that was really true - would you have found yourself in this predicament? Blackchildcx
Isnt it possible to crate a .bat file that put the strings into Windows Firewall?
dcs18
It is possible to create rules into Windows Firewall through extraneous means (registry entries, batch files, etc., etc.) known also as unauthorized rules - this is good news and also bad news.It is bad news because ESET, too is empowered - to unfix itself by adding it's own unwanted firewall rules as rudrax discovered. This is the reason, I prefer to use a good 3rd party program like Windows Firewall Control - in short, exclusive use of the Windows Firewall is a recipe for failure since it does not possess the following feature:--

dcs18
Just an heads-up for all those who have requested my complete firewall rules, through PM:--Please note, that the file you all received from me and imported into your Windows Firewall Control configures only; all your rules - not, your Windows Firewall Control interface. You still need to configure your Windows Firewall Control interface, yourselves.ps:--Glad to note the really large number of folks who have switched loyalty over to Windows Firewall Control.
