steven36
I never have any trouble with WF making new rules because I have it set to block all connections outbound or inbound thats not on the allow list . I don't even have to make rules to block anything unless i want to make and allow rule then If I need to block certain ips I do make a block rule with just those ips . So all my programs are blocked by default unless an allowed rule is made i have 100% control over windows firewall . ;)

steven36
The problem I had with wfc is the fact that it called out and sometimes wanted to make rules i didn't want to make even though I had things blocked i turned windows fw logging off . Now it don't make no rules at all unless allowed . :)

rudrax
Important Announcement:--We are at war - have just added another IP to the Block list (this takes the IP tally to 5.)5 block rule to block ESET activation server (may increase later)12 allow rule to allow definition updates.Total 17 IPs currently.Do we need only those 12 IPs to receive definition update? If that's it, then why don't we block all ESET IPs excluding those 12 IPs?
dcs18
why don't we block all ESET IPs excluding those 12 IPs?The (new) implementation is exactly that - allows just those 12 IPs and blocks the rest (you may / may not see the effect - depending on how your firewall is configured.) rudrax
depending on how your firewall is configured.)Yes, if you've created two rules:One, allowing erkn.exe for those 12 IPsTwo, blocking erkn.exe whole (without inserting any IP)

dcs18
Configuring Your Windows Firewall Control For Optimum MileageMost folks seem completely at a loss, for ideas when it comes to configuring this firewall - maybe, if enough folks would like to vote for it, might consider taking the pains to put up a few illustrations. If i block erkn.exe with no ips . it wont update at all :oThis wasn't tested. Now as you have tested it, we know it won't work that way. From dcs18's implementation, what I see is, there will pop up new IPs after one is blocked. As we see that the blocked IPs count has increased to 5 from 3. So I suggest to block whole of the ESET range of IPs except those allowed 12 IPs. Now there will be two rules:Allow rule for erkn.exe allowing those 12 IPs provided by dcs18.Block rule for erkn.exe blocking those IP range provided at post #1492I don't say that ESET will not pop up any new IP after this. They may do that but going through this, the scope for new IPs will be limited. They have to pop up some out of the box kind of IP(s) - IPs with new patterns than we know already. I will test it and will acknowledge here.
