I guess I know how to get in touch with him, but I preferred to post it in here for the single reason that we've talked on here about that subject.

 

Having some little health issues, I do not have too much time to post on forums nowadays, and however, if I would have time, nsane is not in my plans to do that further.

Hello to all,

need some assistance/guidance

is it possible to restore system image (only c drive) using macrium and acronis without affecting/formatting other partition of new HDD?

Is it really true that the image can only be restored to a hdd that is exactly the same size as the original was or the same HDD?

My new HDD is twice the size of the original(1TB to 2TB). Earlier i used windows built-in image backup tool which format my HDD during restoration.

Yes, it is possible. Of course, you will need a dedicated partition (C) on the new HDD where to restore the image.

 

If you don't have a dedicated partition for C drive, you need to make one, you cannot restore the image to a drive where is any other data, because it will be overwritten by the files from the system image.

No, this is not true. You can restore any image regardless the size of the partition/hdd you had before ( of course, to have enough storage space ). Both apps will ask you which is/are the new partition(s) where you need to restore the backup image.

 

Be careful: For eg., UEFI systems have also another partition called "EFI System Partition". You will need to backup it before, in same image with C drive, and when you will restore them, you will need to have a dedicated partition on the new HDD where to restore the EFI partion. The size of it is about 100MB.

Into my previous post I was referring only to Acronis & Macrium, becuase you referred at them, too. This is the reason for which I used "both".
