. . . . . . . . . and boy did I forget to mention that the hosts method rocks!!!

Yeah, the Hosts method really really Roks......oops "rocks"........ There was no electricity here for almost an hour, so I had some time, checked....rechecked all Hosts entries of IDM, tested.....and installed version 6.20...worked....then again tested and downloaded v6.20 build 2 via right from inside the IDM using "check for updates" options.......installed it. So, far, it's working with no problems.

Thanks to all (@dcs18, @sperm, @software182), who replied to help in the previous thread of IDM.

After testing for almost one hour, here are my final IDM entries in Hosts file on Windows 8.1 Update 1, working well so far:

To get updates using IDM in-built updates, you need the following lines in hosts:

127.0.0.1 tonec.com127.0.0.1 www.tonec.com127.0.0.1 registeridm.com127.0.0.1 www.registeridm.com

Should you decide not to get updates via IDM, add the following block to your hosts:

127.0.0.1 tonec.com127.0.0.1 www.tonec.com127.0.0.1 registeridm.com127.0.0.1 www.registeridm.com127.0.0.1 internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com

Finally set the hosts file READ ONLY.

Just wondering What happen to IDM if martau join the IDM Developer ?

If that happen they would have to change there whole protection scheme .. They would have new serials and IDM would be able detect host blocks and unregister . People would just stick to and old version and just update the xpi ..Old versions keep working as long as you do this. Also even if it could detect host block as long as a serial leaked someone would figure out how to register it anyways and block IPS in a FW that's not detected or Windows IP policy manger . I'm still using and older version TU that some on here told me how to block in windows FW I've never had no trouble with it. With IDM I'm not using host blocks no ways. I have the ips blocked in Windows IP policy manger instead and its more secure than using host blocks . Host are not the only way to block ips . A lot softwares can be cracked though even ones with lots of server checks .. Just crackers don't wont fool with it because everyone rips off there cracks. They do all the work and someone else tries to take credit for it . Do you thank IDM is going make any more money doing this they want make much more not enough to cover it. Theres free download mangers like JD 2 Beta a lot would just switch over . If it were not for a few things IDM can do that others cant I would uninstall it myself.

Finally set the hosts file READ ONLY.

I tested host blocks myself The ones you say if decide not to get updates via IDM This time it didn't bother to call home 184.173.188.107 ..It registered just fine but when it pops up about checking updates it called home to 184.173.188.104 even though it didn't unregister .. Both ips are still live in my browser when I put them in the browser... leading me to believe they could unregister by calling home if they wish the ips are not really blocked with host block I can still access them. still I think blocking in Windows IP policy manger is the best way. It seems host blocks still work but there's holes all in it ...were a simple call to 184.173.188.107 could unregister you .. the thing about IDM I seen patches even stop working and start back working after one build ..there always changing the server checks . If you notice no one complained much this time that confirms it didn't call home to 184.173.188.107 when registering.

patcher will patch IDMan.exe (so can't call home for license check but can check updates without message about damaged system file and "no connection could be made...") and it's made for those who don't want use hosts, each soulution has its own pros and cons

Really why anyone would want to check for updates is beyond me I can always check here at nsane or other sites for an update . But as far as cons with host block its very deceiving you can put www.internetdownloadmanager.com in your browser it will be blocked but the actual IPs dont be blocked the logs from my ip sniffer says it calls from www.internetdownloadmanager.com to 184.173.188.104 will when you check domain records on 184.173.188.104 it dont have a domain to block . same with the check that unregisters you it calls from tb.symcb to 184.173.188.107

Also it calls from ocsp.thawte and crl.thawte to 184.173.188.107. You check 184.173.188.107 on domain records it really dont have a domain . This is why when you put these ips in your browser there still live even with host blocks . The only way you can stop what ever that triggers it would be to have a very good patch or really block the ips were they cant get though . I have used host block before on the very same build a long time then one day it just up and unregistered. I registered it back and it was fine .Still a check got threw though . There's holes all in the host block that can simply be avoided by really blocking the ip.

@ steven

I hear you - do you find any other IPs apart from the following:--

127.0.0.1 184.173.188.104
127.0.0.1 184.173.188.106
127.0.0.1 184.173.188.107

The only ones i found so far that got through host block were 184.173.188.107 this one unregistered me.. also it calls this one 184.173.188.104. but it stayed registered but i dont trust it . Build 2 It did not trigger the 184.173.188.107 it registered fine but still it trigger 184.173.188.104.. Build 1 was were it was triggering 184.173.188.107 on me and a lot of others on here had problems . Back in 2010 this happened before IDM killed patches by changing the server checks around then the next build the patches strated working again . The only way i could regster with host blocks was go offline when they done this. No telling how many times they done this. For a very long time i stoped testing it .I just installed over top and it pretty much stayed registered . i tried patches and so forth when I 1st got this coumpter but after so long they would call home ..I had much better luck using host block ..But now i figured out by blocking the real ips theres even less chance of haveing trouble if you want do clean installs or it never to unregister.

unfortunately you really don't understand what you talking about

you don't undertand what DNS is and what hosts do

program call domain, not ip, now need to learn what hosts do, after that we need just little logic

this is nonsense to

127.0.0.1 184.173.188.104
127.0.0.1 184.173.188.106

I see that download manager is very popular among nsaners and I always wondered why since there's a lot of free/paid ones (easier to crack).

Can anyone tell me what's the big deal with this one ? :)

it is not problem with cracking IDM, problem is when we constantly confuse each other with partially correct information and misinformation, non-stop, again and again, totally madness

Example my last Hosts file just two entries, before do this please ensure all of leftovers IDM Keys is clean...on your system i did to cleaned by running xanax script

script as below in spoiler (Hosts file shold be READ ONLY). with this hosts..no idm home,no check new updates, no purchase online.

and sure..of course no pay.for it..ha..ha

I see that download manager is very popular among nsaners and I always wondered why since there's a lot of free/paid ones (easier to crack).

Can anyone tell me what's the big deal with this one ? :)

it's the best download manager there is, not to mention the abilty to download videos and speed up downloading. can you cite the other similar programs that you were talking about?

It my had been a contaminated Registry I dont know ..but I do know once I took and got all the ips from the host and blocked them in in Windows poicly manger instead there was no need to clean anything I could register again it stops calling home. If host blocks does works for you every time by cleaning the Registry that's fine but I'm going to stick to blocking the ips with IP Block Tool were I dont have to clean it every time . It just adds more work having to clean it . I used it a very long time with just host blocks just installing over top never cleaned nothing .

Sorry I thought it was just like any other download manager, doing simple tasks (like FDM, FlashGet, MinGet, EagleGet, etc). since I'm not into download manager program I didn't know it can do things the others can't.
