Intel is getting desperate. Desperate to move some big numbers, as the PC industry seems to have lost its mojo. Understandable, then, that the chip giant has shifted focus towards mobile devices.

And the company set itself a rather lofty goal of moving some 40 million tablet processors throughout the year 2014. With the halfway mark fast approaching, Intel seems to be doing everything it can to make this goal a reality.

Reuters reports that major tablet brands are gearing up to launch new Intel powered solutions this June.

The company has initiated several advantageous partnerships with hardware vendors, some even at a loss, in order to entice tablet makers to continue buying its chips.

And according to Intel’s Mobile Client Platforms General Manager, Erik Reid, several companies are ready to unleash their newer solutions. Toshiba already did, in fact, by announcing six new tablets and convertible models recently, all of them Intel powered.

One is powered by Android, while the five others are Windows based.

Thing is, most high-end manufactures are happy to utilize Qualcomm or Samsung processors, while lower end (and white label) companies are fine with budget technologies from ARM.

Which leaves Intel in the middle ground, unless it can really turn on the heat in terms of either performance, power, or price.

But the company is trying, and that can only mean good things.

Good things for Intel.

For Windows.

And for end consumers, in particular.
