Microsoft: Despite Update Hacks, Windows XP Is Still Insecure

Windows XP is no longer receiving updates and security patches from Microsoft, but thanks to a registry tweak that we first reported on Friday, everyone still running this particular platform can get a number of fixes straight via Windows Update.

But as far as Microsoft is concerned, no matter how hard you try it, Windows XP cannot be configured in order to remain completely updated and stay secure, so upgrading to Windows 7 or Windows 8 remains your only option.

Windows XP (2001). It's 12 years old now, come on... You can't expect that to keep up with the newer kids on the block... Windows 7 (2009) & 8.1 (2013)

There's no point nagging that XP's unsafe. Everybody and their aunties know that. The problem is, what do you do if as an enterprise, you run mission critical apps that need XP or, as an individual PC user, if you can't afford a new PC to to run Win7/8.1? Not everybody even knows that Linux is an option! For most people, PC's are like televisions. You keep using one till it falls apart. You just don't replace it just 'cuz! :dunno:

Just because Messrs Gates, Nadella, Ballmer and Sinofsky can afford anything and everything under the sun, it doesn't apply to all and sundry. People have more pressing issues at hand like paying their rent & electricity bills, not to mention school fees for their kids and their health and life insurance premiums. -_-

In fact, if MS and their cronies keep using their scare tactics too much, the ones who can't afford a shiny new $400 PC will simply migrate to a $100 Android tablet, influenced by the FUDs. That will teach MS a lesson.

At first, why would Microsoft bother ? It involve lots of dollars. Even if they want to continue supporting Win XP, their hardware partners won't let them do so. Because, upgrading of XP, "not just requires OS upgrade", but at the foremost, it require the new hardware, then comes the OS.

We all know, today, "the XP is 'mostly' with enterprise users." So, just imagine how many PCs across the world would involve hardware upgradation, then add the new OS licenses. Means looooooooooots of Dollars for Microsoft and Associates. When there is soooooooo much of involved, who would want to shutter their shops.

If Microsoft in their infinite wisdom could explain why a correctly configured XP pc is more vulnerable to attacks from internet bad guys than any other OS, when placed in an environment with decent Internet gateway, network & endpoint security measures in place. I am all ears!!!

But if a XP box has no AV, modem firewall or other security assistance, with its owner visiting dodgy web sites, downloading spyware ridden apps & opening any email message they receive. Then that’s another story... :)

10 years is ancient when it comes to tech... Most people on here can't even remember the Motorola 120t, and that came out in 2002...

Regardless of what Microsoft and Microsoft's cheering section say, XP is no more vulnerable than any other OS. I haven't installed a single one of Microsoft's "security updates" since SP3, and I have yet to see my first malware problem...after twelve years!

It has been 52 days since XP suddenly became "unsafe", and we're still waiting for the Attack of the Hackers. What are the Hacker Hordes waiting for?
