sujith
A new report from Shareaholic, a social discovery and sharing platform, on the topic of browser popularity around the world. According to the report, in the past eight months, Google’s Chrome has managed to dominate in desktop and mobile usage, something that supports data coming from other sources. Surprisingly, Firefox is no longer on the second spot, like it normally is, but has dropped to the fourth place, well below Apple’s Safari and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. In April 2014, Chrome had a market share of 34.65 percent, more than double the one of Safari, which only managed to reach 15.19 percent share. Internet Explorer had a market share of 12.49 percent, while Firefox reached 11.94 percent, a steep drop from the 16.6 percent it had last September. As mentioned, there are other sources of data regarding the monthly evolution of the market share of browsers. Even if the numbers from StatCounter only regard desktop browsers, the discrepancies are still obvious. For instance, data for April indicates that Chrome was most popular among 45.22 percent of the world, while Internet Explorer came in second with 21.43 percent. Firefox came in third with 18.76 percent, while Safari barely managed to reach a 9.79 percent. However, since the data from Shareaholic also takes into account these browsers’ popularity on mobile devices, it’s obvious why Chrome and Safari are the top two browsers, considering that Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS are the top two mobile operating systems out there. Roy W
Firefox is losing out to IE already because,I suppose, people are not too happy with some of the changes to Firefox.Firefox v 28.0 seems to be the 'best" to date and will stick with it until I really have problems. Rok
I was an avid user of Opera for almost 15 years. But, for the last 8 months dropped it, and now happily using Chrome on Windows and my Android devices. No, complaints so far. Above all, why one would use the other, when they are all started using Chromium. And, why not settle for original?
Karlston
I guess folks figure that with Mozilla seemingly wanting to turn Firefox into a Chrome-clone, why not save time and just move to Google's browser now.For the record, though almightily pissed off at Mozilla's unpopular forced Australis crap, I still use Firefox. But like gazillions of others, have added the Classic Theme Restorer add-on and restored the UI back to the way *I* want it. The only restriction is that it works only with the default theme, and very few others.
oliverjia
It's really hard to believe that Safari surpassed IE in market share, considering Windows 7 alone count for about 50% of market share?

Karlston
Hnmm. It works fine with all of my favorite themes.Oops sorry, didn't mean to imply they were incompatible, I should have said it mostly works with other themes. IIRC, the CTR first option to set the tab shape to square/rounded didn't appear for the themes I tried.
avmad
It's no wonder, as it comes as unwanted software with many installers. :rolleyes:Never see Firefox doing that.
