Copy/Paste not working for images

Dcs 18, update....one of the other members ("go0gle") kindly sent me a "cmd.exe" file which I duly put in my System32. I then rebooted and tried "copy/paste" and tried clicking on a hyperlink in Word..in both cases the problem continues...but at least that eliminates "cmd.exe" from suspicion. But you guys have been great and I appreciate you taking time with this. I'm just gonna live with it for a while, it's not such a disaster, just an inconvenience. I'll probably wait until I'm in the mood and do a re-install of XP or an install of Win 7.

Thank you very much for taking the time to advise me about this. Now I'm off to watch Real Madrid win the Champions League Final!!! Chao and thanks to you and "go0gle".

P.s. I still love Win XP :showoff: :showoff: :showoff:

I'm back...I wrote this post already, then when I clicked "Post" there was an internal server error and it got erased!!! Here goes again:-

1) I tried Firefox "restart with add-ons disabled " in safe-mode....problem still persists.

2) Tried Office repair option (I used original installation disc)...problem still persists.

3) I don't have IE installed. I had it until 1 year ago, then tried to install a subtitle edit prog which doesnt work with IE..but to uninstall IE you have to uninstall SP3 first...I didn't want to go through all that so I tried deleting IE from Program files...some parts of IE are left, but I don't use/like IE so I just kept on with Firefox. Anyway this problem with copy/paste only started a few days ago.

my bad, instead of IE8 I should have mentioned any other browser.Well it looks like corrupted registry settings.

Compare word options for cut/paste with this - http://i.imgur.com/tssReI1.png

In Show document content see if show picture placeholder is unchecked.

If still it does not work then try this

In cut, copy, paste change setting of Insert/paste pictures to (in front of text or through) OR

If the pasted pictures are blank or appears as text only, right click to change wrap options

Check C:\windows\system32\clipbrd (clipbrd is clipboard viewer, see if copied image is there)

For hyperlink problem see if this helps http://support.microsoft.com/kb/218153

Note:No offense but windows features like IE8 should be removed from control panel > add/remove programs > add/remove windows components.

Urm, could it not be something filter specific / rule / no script etc, via firewall / AV ? (rule set.)

Generic question I know. but I'm just throwing that outhere.

Jilowjacob1990, first, yes I know it was really dumb impatience that made me try to delete IE from program files..I won't do that again. Second, the compare options screenshot...I am using Office 2003, I don't think that screenshot is available in the Word that I am using. Third, when I click "copy" from the internet image, then "Paste" on the Word page there is a pause then the curser moves along a short space, but no image or text or box outline is shown. I went to "clipbrd" in System32 and clicked "open" and the last image image that I copy is there.

Now I'm gonna check the link you posted at microsoft support regarding the hyperlink prob.

Jilowjacob1990, I used your link to Microsoft and used the "FixIt" automatic method that they offer..and it worked for the hyperlink problem!!! I've checked on various links and they're now connecting to the internet!!! Thank you!!!

The funny thing is that a few days ago I found that support page and read the details giving two options, allow Ms to "FixIt" automatically or fix it yoursrlf. I chose the second option and followed the instructions step by step, very carefully to make the necessary change to the registry..but it didn't work then..I hav eno idea why not..but now it's working after using the automatic FixIt. So thanks again Jilowjacob, I can still copy then insert images using "insert image-from file" on the Word toolbar. That will get me by for now. Thanks to you and Dodel for your input. :showoff: :showoff: :showoff:

Update...until yesterday (30th May) the copy/paste problem continued as previously. I gave up trying to fix it and was content to be able to use the "insert" method from the toolbar. Well, between it not working yesterday until a few minutes ago, I have not installed or uninstalled any programs and I have made no changes to my system....but a few moments ago I copy/pasted an image from the internet into my Word page...it worked!! I have no explanation for this, but obviously something occurred somewhere in my computer...damn strange.

The reason for asking you to copy the cmd.exe file into your system 32 was to be able to successfully run the command which I posted at post # 19 - did you run that command which was failing for you?

Dcs18, when I ran the Sfc /ScanNow command it asked me to insert the original XP disc...which I don't have. So I was unable to complete the scan. Anyway, the copy/paste problem has disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared. I just copy/pasted some images from the internet to Word with no problem whatsoever. Thank you again for your time in helping and advising me. :showoff: :showoff: :showoff:
