Mozilla to change update policy for old Firefox installations

Most Firefox installations get updated automatically whenever a new version of the web browser is released. This is true for all channels the browser is offered in and the default way updates are handled.

It makes sense in many ways, considering that new versions patch security vulnerabilities among other things which makes old versions of Firefox vulnerable to exploits targeting those security issues.

Firefox users can change if and how Firefox is updated in the browser however. Some switch the preference to manual instead, which notifies about new updates but does not install those on the system automatically. Others may block updates from being deployed at all.

Are you showing the setting (Never check for updates ..)?

or you just showing a completely disabled "update" tab? in options

I'm asking cause firefox checks occasionally for update and trying to install it , (especially if i click Help/about ) no matter if a set to NEVER CHECK for updates...

What I'm showing is that my entire Update page has been disabled (successfully) from checking for Updates (except, consciously - for add-ons) and now my Customers would no longer be able to switch the options on that page to on/off (they're hard-coded and cannot be changed even through the Group Policies.)

Oh, not having this issue. :nono:

If you installed Mozilla Maintenance Service, it might be the reason

Try disabling/uninstalling it

If you installed Mozilla Maintenance Service, it might be the reason

Never installed maintenance Service (unchecked during setup)...

It happens again today on friend's laptop win7 64bit

Yesterday I've install Firefox 25.0.1 for example (basically for some addons compatibility reasons)

set to Never check for Updates in Options,

Unckeck addons automatic updates and set to Manual

also in about:config i have cleared 'link' value on app.update.url

Everything went smooth until today, during a browsing session, i'm getting a popup stated that the latest version has been downloaded and will be applied after restart....

So it happens...
