geeteam Posted April 21, 2014 Share Posted April 21, 2014 Microsoft’s purchase of Nokia’s Devices & Services business is finally going to be closed this month - at least that’s what Nokia announced today, saying that it expects the deal to be closed later this week, on April 25. According to the company, the transaction "is now subject only to certain customary closing conditions." Just yesterday, we told you that, once the transaction is closed, “the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy.” This means that Nokia will no longer exist as a company that makes phones - after more than two decades in which it has been at the forefront of mobile innovation. The acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft was first announced in September 2013, shocking many people - much like Nokia’s adoption of Windows Phone had shocked the tech world back in early 2011. As pretty much every other business, the smartphone industry is a tough one. You need to either adapt, or die, and Nokia chose to become a part of Microsoft in order to avoid the latter.
