User profile service failed Logon

Hi

I get the error " User profile service failed Logon". This is Win 7 professional laptop.

My administrator account has this problem while I can log in file in guest account which has no password.

I have searched the internet but the method shown is usually same and too difficult to follow.

Can I do this by using Hierens boot cd or any other method as in guset account it also does give me error when I give administrator password..

I have tried to rest password by windows offline nt password utility but it also fails.

  • - start safe modus

    - open registry

    - go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Profilelist

under profilelist you see subkeys with large numbers you will find one with extention .bak and another without extension

rename de subkey without extention to .old

remove the .bak from the other subkey

    leave the registry and reboot

  • now you can logon back as normal.

be carefull if working in the registry ! backup things before you do something wrong.
