Chancer
I am now trying to update another PC with the latest update from MS updates; KB2919355, it fails to install with Error Code 80073712.The PC is Win 8.1 wmc 64 bit.Having googled I ran an MS Fixit and then some dism commands I found on an MS help page, but still no luck.Any suggestions gratefully received. dcs18
I'd try booting from the 8.1 DVD >> Repair >> Advanced Options >> Command Prompt >> SFC /ScanNow >> reboot into Windows.Retry the Windows Update.
dcs18
Now, before you get into installation mode at the Windows Update page, I'd un-check (de-select) KB2919355 and install all the other updates first without neglecting to reboot. In other words, I'd keep KB2919355 as the last, single remaining update. Have a look on Microsoft downloads for kb2919355 and you will find that there is other updates which must be installed first to get kb2919355 to install. Kalju
If you are having problems, then it is obvious that Windows is corrupted. At first repair it and then isn't any problem to install latest updates.Forced installing is not reasonable. Sooner or later it ends with a complete reinstall of Windows. Airstream_Bill
I know of three brand new Toshiba Laptops in town that can not install the update. It fails. I have a new Toshiba Laptop and it installed ok. Everything I have read is that Microsoft knows about it. I tried everything I knew to get the update in my friends machine it will not install. I did not reinstall Windows to Factory Or Refresh Install. Very Strange. Just thought I would pass that on. My Friends machine has an SSD drive. Intel i7 ????? Mine does not for what ever difference that makes. Edited April 11, 2014 by Airstream_Bill
Chancer
I got there eventually.I'm not the only one with problems as can be seen form this thread, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/windows-81-update-1-failing-to-install-with-errors/c3071122-e903-4775-b659-e98784bc786c?page=1&tm=1397243239002 The solution for me was to install the updates separately and in this order;1.KB29194422.KB29193553.KB29320464.KB29375925.KB29384396.KB2934018Thanks for all the replies. stylemessiah
My standard procedure for almost any windows update issue (most usually the revolving or stuck update(s) scenario where it wants to keep downloading the same downloads (94 in one case recently) is the following, and just recently did this on a friends PC with windows 8 with the same error as above. Quite often an update error is down to a corrupt update catalogue or download.* Run services.msc* Stop Windows Update serviceNavigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistibution in explorer, select all folders in the right hand pane, and delete them (ive noticed on occasion in windows 8 where it wont delete some folders as that jekyll and hyde POS locks files that were able to be deleted in every previous version of windows)* RebootUpon reboot, the folders you just deleted will be recreated & repopulated* Check for updates (may have to do this several times on Windows 8 (did i mention its a POS?)* Install updates manually and selectively if you like, or install all....usually installing all works fine Edited April 12, 2014 by stylemessiah
dcs18
Mine does not for what ever difference that makes.Did not have any issue whatsoever on my own system, either - but, for some reason all folks who reported update issues seem to be running the WMC edition (maybe it's just a coincidence.)

dcs18
@ chancerWithout referring to any post on your thread, like to just say that my 8.1 Update was downloaded & installed through Windows Update (by accident.) However, everything went on well and I'm enjoying a thoroughly satisfying computing experience. That been said, though - my personal principle is to always opt for a full and clean install through a BootDVD.This month-end, I'm all set to download the ISO and perform a fresh installation from ground up which is not really the problem - the big headache is reconfiguring the entire system. p4psb
I have two windows 8 Pro PCs, which were upgraded from Windows 7, and then upgraded to Windows 8.1.A custom build desktop that installed the 8 April update, but by accident. My first attempts failed, but on 9 April I had to replace a SATA cable. I then used an image and restored to 6 April. I then updated again using Windows Update and it updated without error. An Acer laptop that refused all attempts at the update. I have tried most of the suggestions on the web without success. So I decided to System Restore the laptop to before the date of the failed updates. If it helps someone, here is what I did:System Restore to before 8 April (in my case 3 April). Download the Windows Update off-line installers: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335 Fix Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/ Scan (and repair) Windows system components: sfc /scannow Restart computer Run off-line installer: Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu Restart Computer Install the remaining updates Restart Computer
