geeteam Posted April 3, 2014 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Among a bevy of announcements, Microsoft had another announcement to make regarding the cost of Windows Phone and Windows to OEMs who’d want to license it for their devices. According to the announcement, Windows and Windows Phone will now be available for free to manufacturers for use on devices with displays smaller than 9-inches. This includes all smartphones and small tablets with 8-inch displays.This should make Windows a lot more attractive option to OEMs to use on their low end devices in particular. This was one of the reasons for Android’s popularity, that it was free for use. This move might even help drive down the cost of low-end Windows devices in future.
