Ubuntu developers are making constant improvements to Unity8 and Mir, and they are also registering good progress towards implementing new features.

Unity8 and Mir are the cornerstones of Ubuntu for phones and they will also be present in the future on the desktop, although there is no precise time frame for that. Here are just a few of the things that Ubuntu developers have been working on.

According to a message on the mailing list posted by Kevin Gunn, the leader of the Mir and Unity8 projects, the right edge features have just landed in the repositories, a number of tweaks for the split greeter have been implemented, and the “Welcome wizard” is registering some good progress (Wi-fi support already implemented).

Also, Greeter and Indicator hinting, as well as greeter-to-session transition animation per design feedback has been updated, and the work for the proper implementation of Qt 5.2.1 has continued.

The Mir display server also received a number of improvements. Ubuntu developers are working on surface class hierarchy, and the cursor support for the experimental version Mir and Unity, on the desktop, has been improved.

Ubuntu for phones is now under a feature freeze due to some nasty bugs, but the freeze should be lifted soon.
