anuseems
DirectX 12 will be unveiled at GDC 2014From Anandtech:Picking up from where we left off with last weeks discussion of GDC presentations, Microsoft has released a short teaser regarding their GDC presentation. The previously mentioned DirectX: Evolving Microsoft's Graphics Platform session isnt just a session on low-level APIs, as we first surmised, but will in fact be the formal unveiling of DirectX 12.Just what DirectX 12 will contain remains to be seen. Given the session descriptions for this and other sessions, low-level (ish) interfaces for Direct3D seems likely. But its not clear if there are updates in store for any of the other components of DirectX.Historically speaking, Microsoft has been overdue for a new DirectX announcement. Other than the various point updates over the last couple of years, Microsoft hasnt had a major DirectX announcement since DirectX 11 in 2009, with DirectX 10 coming 3 years before that in 2006.http://www.anandtech.com/show/7835/directx-12-to-be-unveiled-at-gdc-2014 Edited March 8, 2014 by anuseems
anuseems
DirectX 12 to be introduced March 20thThat the official name too Microsoft has officially revealed that there will indeed be an API launching under the DirectX 12 brand and the launch event is taking a palace at the upcoming Game Developers Conference. We are just two weeks from GDC 2014 and the launch event is booked for March 20th 2014 at 10:00 at the famous Moscone Center in San Francisco. The Game Developers Conference kicks off on March 17th and winds down on March 21st, but Microsoft is clear that it wants to launch its new API on the 20th, the day before the last day of the show.Microsoft has listed AMD Radeon graphics, Intel, Nvidia and Qualcomm Snapdragon as its earliest adopters. Since Qualcomm became very aggressive in the graphics space and the new Adreno 420 is already a GPU packed with many modern graphics features, we believe that they will stay on course where they can compete with the big graphics boys, at least in the low power area.We would not be surprised to see AMD and Nvidia DirectX 12 hardware very soon, and if we had to guess, there has to be a demo chip in order to show the DirectX 12 features with cards shipping this year.http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/34137-directx-12-to-be-introduced-march-20th Edited March 8, 2014 by anuseems
