Samsung's US team released a list of devices that are getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update, putting their users' minds at ease. What about the international versions of the phones though? A blogger in Poland got in touch with a local Samsung representative and found out.

Here's the list:

Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
Samsung Galaxy Note II
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3
Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8
Samsung Galaxy Grand
Samsung Galaxy Express 2
The Samsung Galaxy S III is conspicuously missing from the list, even though its phablet counterpart – the Note II – is on it. Reportedly, the reason is the amount of RAM, the Galaxy S III has "only" 1GB.

That can't be the real reason though – the Galaxy Grand has 1GB RAM too. Plus, KitKat is optimized for 512MB devices, it's more memory efficient than Jelly Bean so even the weight of TouchWiz can't be it (and again, the Grand has the same amount of RAM).
Note that the US version of the Galaxy S III will be getting KitKat, though that one has 2GB of RAM.
Whatever the reason, this puts Samsung's 2012 flagship in the same boat as the international HTC One X (though HTC blamed NVIDIA's chipsets) - remaining on Jelly Bean or go the unofficial ROM way.

Yes @evan12 as it as been stated, maybe the only was to save it is to get a custom rom for it.

And this is a very important reason for me to choose Apple iPhone.

Apple supports their iPhones mobile phones 5 years from it's original release.

Until release of iOS 7, iPhone 3GS was still supported.

Count the next-generations after 3GS yourself, 4, 4S, 5, 5S and this is really amazing and necessary to support it's old products for at least in next 3 generation.

Even right now, iPhone 4S (8GB model) is still in production and this is a great phone for people who can not afford iPhone 5S or even 5.

You buy a Samsung and it will be living only for 1 or maximum 2 years and this is really bad, because they need your money and will make you to buy a newer phone from them and they will become richer and richer with all of those crappy phones they produce every month (or even day?).

@Nima that is true but remember that iOS is delivered by Apple only so they make sure compatibility test is done on all older generations of the idevices unlike Android which is only delivered by Google only and it goes to manufacturers to test before it gets to their devices. Not that those devices cannot run the latest version of Android? They can, but it a strategy for the manufacturers so that they can release new devices with the latest OS

@DLord maybe a manual update will help, as it will take time to get to your region

Apple phones are ridiculously over priced from the start .

Especially considering the fact as to what you actually get after even trading your kidney and an infant for it !

( Google it and you will read these bizarre and funny events, which sadly are true ! )

Crippled and a strapped OS on a under powered hardware, compared to the other options in their price bracket and hilariously, some even better at a lower price range !

What support from Apple ! Have you seen their release cycles compared to the changelog of their releases ?

Hardly any major changes in the new released models compared to their predecessors and the Apple buyers then again need to mortgage their arms and legs to get a newer one ....!

Support from Samsung is also bad, in respect to the softwares. They are very late in releasing newer versions of Android for their devices, but the hell its an Android. You dont need to wait for a nanny to come fix it up . Do it yourself and in what ever flavor you like and for no matter how long you want !!!

I bought the Nexus 5 a few days back .

Brilliant piece of hardware and software . Already running the latest android out of the box and rest assured, it shall receive the latest upgrades from the company as soon as they are released and much quicker and earlier than any other device !

The device itself is very fast, fluidic, elegant, sophisticated and can eat away any Apple , day or night !
