Turk
By Liz Gannes February 3, 2014, 2:53 PM PSTGoogle has been ordered to remove its mysterious technology showcase barge, under construction on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay, due to lack of permits.“We just received the letter from the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and we are reviewing it,” a Google spokesperson wrote by email. The Associated Press first reported the news Monday based on comment from the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, a state organization that oversees the local shoreline.Google could continue construction on the barge if it is relocated to a permitted facility, the SFBCDC said.Details about the project leaked out last fall because of its massive physical presence — a 50-foot stack of shipping containers under construction with tight security floating off of Treasure Island, which is smack in the middle of the Bay.Google’s previous comment on the matter was, “Although it’s still early days and things may change, we’re exploring using the barge as an interactive space where people can learn about new technology.”http://recode.net/2014/02/03/google-told-to-remove-san-francisco-bay-barge
