Turk
By Bogdan Popa January 30th, 2014, 10:28 GMTMicrosoft could announce the name of Steve Ballmer’s successor as soon as next week, according to a new report, with all bets currently on cloud boss Satya Nadella.According to Recode, who cites sources close to the matter, Microsoft has almost completed the selection of a new CEO, so an announcement on the matter is prepared for the next week.Even though more than 100 candidates have been involved in the talks, it turns out that Satya Nadella will be the one to take over from Ballmer, with BUILD 2014 to mark his first public appearance as a Microsoft CEO.Former Nokia boss Stephen Elop and internals Kevin Turner and Tony Bates are also said to be involved in the last-minute talks, but they’re still behind Nadella in terms of board backing. It remains to be seen whether Microsoft would indeed make an announcement next week, but it’s pretty clear that the search for the third CEO of the company is almost done.http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft-to-Announce-New-CEO-Next-Week-Report-422179.shtml

Turk
Two Indian names in Microsoft CEO succession race CHENNAI, February 3, 2014 Updated: February 3, 2014 00:15 ISTThe five-month-long search for the next CEO of software giant Microsoft, which threw up possible candidates such as Ford CEO Alan Mulally and Qualcomm CEO-elect Steve Mollenkopf, is finally drawing to a close. At the heart of the succession race are two names that have caused a flutter among the Indian and NRI techie community — Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella and Chennai-born Sundar Pichai.Mr. Nadella, who has been with Microsoft for the last 20 years and is known for his innovative work on the company’s growing server and tools business, has been all but crowned by the international media and is said to be the more likely candidate. A 46-year-old, who studied electrical engineering at the Manipal Institute of Technology, Mr. Nadella has led efforts that include Microsoft’s Bing search engine, its SQL Server database and a cloud service called Azure.Sundar Pichai, who joined Google in 2004 and is the head of Google Chrome, operating system Android and applications like Gmail, was thrown into the CEO search mix on Friday after little-known technology publication SiliconAngle said that Microsoft was actively in negotiations with Mr. Pichai.“We have confirmed that Mr. Pichai is the top choice for the CEO position of Microsoft according to sources,” the blog said. Mr. Pichai’s name at this point is still speculation, and even among the technology community, he is currently seen as an inspiring but unlikely choice.http://www.thehindu.com/news/two-indian-names-in-microsoft-ceo-succession-race/article5646236.eceSiliconAngleBREAKING NEWS: Google SVP of Chrome & Apps Sundar Pichai now front runner for Microsoft CEO job John Furrier January 31sthttp://siliconangle.com/blog/2014/01/31/breaking-news-google-svp-of-chrome-apps-sundar-pichai-now-front-runner-for-microsoft-ceo-job/ Edited February 2, 2014 by Turk
