Reefa
Windows 9 is becoming a very anticipated product, not only for users, but also for those involved in the IT industry who want more Windows XP users to dump the aging OS and move to a newer platform. Dell, for example, hopes that Windows XP users will jump ship as soon as possible, and given the fact that such a transition usually required new hardware, the company’s PC sales would obviously experience a boost.Dell's European end user computing marketing chief Margaret Franco told V3 in an interview that while Windows 8.1 is expected to increase consumer appeal for the modern platform, Windows 9 is very likely to drive the migration forward, at least in case it arrives in early 2015 as it’s now rumored.“When Windows 9 comes out, we're also seeing a lot more interest around developing the transition strategy for their OS,” she said. “There is a pressure point in order to start accelerating OS migration because in April, that's when the support for XP ends. We're seeing much more interest around OS planning and strategy planning, such as finding out what the benefits of touch are.”Microsoft is expected to break the news on Windows 9 in just a few months at the BUILD developer conference, while work on this new operating system is scheduled to start in late April. If reports are true, then we should expect Windows 9 to be unveiled in April 2015, approximately one year after the company introduced the first major update for Windows 8.1.Windows 9 should correct many of the issues found in Windows 8.1 and could bring back a Start Menu that would make the operating system more user-friendly. At the same time, Microsoft might also implement changes to allow desktop users to run Metro apps in separate windows.Source
nIGHT
How about hardware requirements? Will Windows 9 run on older hardware? If it will then maybe it will be an 'absolute' xp killer, and if it will not then how this is an 'absolute' xp killer? SPECTRUM
if Windows 9 does not run in XP hardware, then is not an alternative at all.

Everyone
No need to kill XP. It's actually already clinically dead, just hooked up to life support. As for W9, as long as M$ doesn't stop putting more bloat in each new W iteration and starts to actually rewrite, refactor and optimise the OS' code to be fast and light on system resources, nothing will really change. All we'll be getting is the aging hack known as win32 API, a file system which' code "is a purple opium-fueled Victorian horror novel", layers and layers of wierd APIs stacked upon each other to make up for win32 retardness, while being retarded themselves, plus a bonus of can't-be-turned-off "features" nobody ever wanted nor asked for.The only thing keeping me from ditching windows is that OSX treats the user like a limbless child and linux is still like a giant construction site with shitloads of different distributions, each of them being broken in a its own unique way. Catoja
There is no real killer for windows XP ... Not even windows 7 could kill it, its just too simples, straight foward windows experience, not this new crapware ... Kind of sad for the companys ... If it wasn't for stupid/not essential CPU requirements (or should I asy restrictions!!), Win 8 could have been a good choice for XP users, as it runs smoothly on many older machines runing XP. That is perhaps considering only the hardware.
MidnightDistortions
I think the problem with XP lies in that it took them too long to release Vista, then Vista itself being a failure. W7 was great for many at launch mostly the Vista users bailing ship and got W7, but it took more than just a new OS to get other XP users off and that was a mistake because it caused companies and consumes to think that they don't need a new OS every few years and W7 will receive the same fate most likely. I don't know whether MS will continue the same methodology, new OS every year or so or the fact they should have kept service packs instead of changing things to make it more difficult then it needs to be. Depending on W9's new features i most likely won't get it but i am eager to hear how MS plans to put the start screen nonsense into a windowed mode on the desktop. I don't think XP will fully disappear from W9.. if it happens great but if not it might be awhile before XP falls off the radar.Having a thriving economy is the sure XP killer but seeing how the economy is having the exact opposite so many are still clamoring and defending XP and to keep it survive. That and it's far cheaper to find a broken XP machine with valuable parts vs buying a new PSU or hard drive in a store (though i wouldn't recommend getting a second hand hard drive). When you have money problems you learn how to use what resources you can find.
abbdoc
Agree with all pointsHowever my experience with XP began with x64, which was OKayish but Windows 7 x64 absolutely (IMHO) bettered XPWindows 8 is Vista (or Fista)Hence why MS realising theve boobed want to get right up us with our trousers on and pay out even more money for their mistakesIts a great business-have your clients do your reasearch and development and make them pay for it
