LG’s flagship, the G2, turned out to be a pretty great phone from 2013 and while it hasn’t sold all that well it’s still a brilliant option for folks – as we found out in our review. It’s a good-looking phone in either the standard black or white models but, things are about to get a little bit more colorful regarding the G2. LG have officially announced two new colors of the device in Singapore and Asia to celebrate the Chinese New Year, which starts in the next couple of weeks. Red and gold versions of the device have been announced and unlike other colored variants, LG has changed their back panel a little bit. On these new versions, the back is textured and should offer a little more grip.

Right now, these new colors have been announced for Singapore and are available for $898 SGD and will be available from January 18th on local carriers Starhub, SingTel and M1. Obviously, the Chinese New Year isn’t a holiday in the US but, there’s a good chance that LG will launch these colors around the rest of the world regardless. After all, with sales of the G2 not doing that well, a couple of new colors might encourage people to take notice once more. More choice is always a good thing though and we hope that LG is looking to bring these West.

The G2 is still the same phone in whatever color you get, the same Snapdragon 800 and 5.2-inch display with the innovative button placement. No matter what variant of the G2 you get, you’re in for a pretty good experience and while LG have struggled with updates in the past, an Android 4.4 update is pegged to arrive shortly for the G2. If you’re not interested in colors and just like the thought of picking up a G2, you can check out the deals over at Amazon where you can get a G2 on AT&T for just $0.01. Will a couple of new colors make that much of a difference for the G2? It’s unlikely but, there’s a chance people will start to take a little more notice of their flagship device in a new outfit.
