HTC has always been considered to be sloppy when it comes to updating their (almost) a year old devices to the latest Android iteration. This time around, they have been quick to update their current flagship – the HTC One – to Android 4.4 KitKat, and have been following suit with the HTC One Mini and the HTC One Max. However the older and somewhat lesser known sibling in the HTC One series – the HTC One X+ will not be getting a taste of Kit Kat.

An enthusiastic owner of the HTC One X+ sought clarification from HTC Denmark in regards to this subject. That was when a gloomy tweet was sent out by HTC Denmark (or Netherlands if you want to be technically correct). Verbatim, they tweeted this – “We can confirm the HTC One X+ will remain on the current software version, Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.”

What this means is the HTC One X+ would be receiving no bump up – neither to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean nor to Sense 5.5. In extension to the same logic, we would advise owners of the older HTC One X and the One S should not keep their hopes up of a software update coming their way.

In a surprising turn of events, an HTC official had suggested that an update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean would be coming to the AT&T HTC One X and HTC One X+. Since there is no clear update from HTC headquarters, we would assume both these information to be true. However, official updates notwithstanding, there is another route to take – provided you are brave and willing enough – the route of custom ROMs.

Update: Both the One X and One X+ will stay on Android 4.2 (officially) forever.
